  • On asymptotic symmetries in higher dimensions for any spin
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Nature. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; :12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate asymptotic symmetries in flat backgrounds of dimension higher than or equal to four. For spin two we provide the counterpart of the extended BMS transformations found by Campiglia and Laddha in four-dimensional Minkowski space. We then identify higher-spin supertranslations and generalised superrotations in any dimension. These symmetries are in one-to-one correspondence with spin-s partially-massless representations on the celestial sphere, with supertranslations corresponding in particular to the representations with maximal depth. We discuss the definition of the corresponding asymptotic charges and we exploit the supertranslational ones in order to prove the link with Weinberg's soft theorem in even dimensions.

  • Renormalization of spin-one asymptotic charges in AdS D
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Nature. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 2023:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study the renormalized action and the renormalized presymplectic potential for Maxwell fields on Anti de Sitter backgrounds of any dimensions. We then use these results to explicitly derive finite boundary charges for angle-dependent asymptotic symmetries. We consider both Poincaré and Bondi coordinates, the former allowing us to control the systematics for arbitrary D, the latter being better suited for a smooth flat limit.

  • Unconstrained higher spins of mixed symmetry I. Bose fields
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0550-3213. ; 815:3, s. 289-367
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This is the first of two papers devoted to the local "metric-like" unconstrained Lagrangians and field equations for higher-spin gauge fields of mixed symmetry in flat space. Here we complete the previous constrained formulation of Labastida for Bose fields. We thus recover his Lagrangians via the Bianchi identities. before extending them to their "minimal" unconstrained form with higher derivatives of the compensator fields and to yet another, non-minimal, form with only two-derivative terms. We also identify classes of these systems that are invariant under Weyl-like symmetries. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • (A)dS exchanges and partially-massless higher spins
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics B. ; :804, s. 383-420
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We determine the current exchange amplitudes for free totally symmetric tensor fields $\vf_{\mu_1 ... \mu_s}$ of mass $M$ in a $d$-dimensional $dS$ space, extending the results previously obtained for $s=2$ by other authors. Our construction is based on an unconstrained formulation where both the higher-spin gauge fields and the corresponding gauge parameters $\Lambda_{\mu_1 >... \mu_{s-1}}$ are not subject to Fronsdal's trace constraints, but compensator fields $\alpha_{\mu_1 ... \mu_{s-3}}$ are introduced for $s > 2$. The free massive $dS$ equations can be fully determined by a radial dimensional reduction from a $(d+1)$-dimensional Minkowski space time, and lead for all spins to relatively handy closed-form expressions for the exchange amplitudes, where the external currents are conserved, both in $d$ and in $(d+1)$ dimensions, but are otherwise arbitrary. As for $s=2$, these amplitudes are rational functions of $(ML)^2$, where $L$ is the $dS$ radius. In general they are related to the hypergeometric functions $_3F_2(a,b,c;d,e;z)$, and their poles identify a subset of the "partially-massless" discrete states, selected by the condition that the gauge transformations of the corresponding fields contain some non-derivative terms. Corresponding results for $AdS$ spaces can be obtained from these by a formal analytic continuation, while the massless limit is smooth, with no van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov discontinuity.

  • Current Exchanges and Unconstrained Higher Spins.
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics B. ; B773, s. 203-237
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The (Fang-)Fronsdal formulation for free fully symmetric (spinor-) tensors rests on (gamma-)trace constraints on gauge fields and parameters. When these are relaxed, glimpses of the underlying geometry emerge: the field equations extend to non-local expressions involving the higher-spin curvatures, and with only a pair of additional fields an equivalent ``minimal'' local formulation is also possible. In this paper we complete the discussion of the ``minimal'' formulation for fully symmetric (spinor-) tensors, constructing one-parameter families of Lagrangians and extending them to (A)dS backgrounds. We then turn on external currents, that in this setting are subject to conventional conservation laws and, by a close scrutiny of current exchanges in the various formulations, we clarify the precise link between the local and non-local versions of the theory. To this end, we first show the equivalence of the constrained and unconstrained local formulations, and then identify a unique set of non-local Lagrangian equations which behave in exactly the same fashion in current exchanges.

  • Geometric Lagrangians for massive higher-spin fields.
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Physics B. ; :796, s. 77-122
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lagrangians for massive, unconstrained, higher-spin bosons and fermions are proposed. The idea is to modify the geometric, gauge invariant Lagrangians describing the corresponding massless theories by the addition of suitable quadratic polynomials. These polynomials provide generalisations of the Fierz-Pauli mass term containing all possible traces of the basic field. No auxiliary fields are needed.

  • Geometric massive higher spins and current exchanges.
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Fortschritte der Physik. - : Wiley. - 0015-8208 .- 1521-3978. ; 56:7-9, s. 800-808
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Generalised Fierz-Pauli mass terms allow to describe massive higher-spin fields on flat background by means of simple quadratic deformations of the corresponding geometric, massless Lagrangians. In this framework there is no need for auxiliary fields. We briefly review the construction in the bosonic case and study the interaction of these massive fields with external sources, computing the corresponding propagators. In the same fashion as for the massive graviton, but differently from theories where auxiliary fields are present, the structure of the current exchange is completely determined by the form of the mass term itself.
