  • LED-induced fluorescence system for tea classification and quality assessment
  • 2014
  • In: Journal of Food Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0260-8774. ; 137, s. 95-100
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A fluorescence system was developed by using several light emitting diodes (LEDs) with different wavelengths as excitation light sources. The fluorescence sensor head consists of multi LED light sources and a multimode fiber for fluorescence collection, where the LEDs and the corresponding filters can be easily chosen to get appropriate excitation wavelengths for different applications. By analyzing fluorescence spectra with the principal component analysis method, the system was utilized in the classification of four types of green tea and two types of black tea beverages. Quality of Xihu Longjing tea leaves of different grades and that of the corresponding liquid tea samples were studied to further investigate the ability and application of the system in the evaluation of classification/quality of tea and other foods. • Optimising milled titanium alloy concave surface quality with micro-textured ball-end milling cutters
  • 2021
  • In: International Journal of Manufacturing Research. - : Inderscience Publishers. - 1750-0591. ; 16:2, s. 122-134
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The cutting speed at the lowest point of a ball-end milling cutter is zero, which results in poor workpiece surface quality and serious cutter wear. To alleviate this problem, a micro-texture can be processed on the rake face of a ball-end milling cutter to provide an anti-friction and anti-wear mechanism. The objective of the work reported here is to reduce cutter wear and optimise workpiece surface quality. By using a mathematical model of row spacing to analyse the differential geometric relationship between cutters and surfaces at their contact point, we have been able to obtain optimal cutter orientation. This was verified by simulating concave surface machining. Experiments were then conducted to verify the approach and the results showed that when the cutter orientation is adjusted to its optimum, the surface quality of the workpiece processed by a micro-textured ball-end milling cutter is at its best. • DETECTION OF GAS CONCENTRATION BY CORRELATION SPECTROSCOPY USING A MULTI-WAVELENGTH FIBER LASER
  • 2011
  • In: PROGRESS IN ELECTROMAGNETICS RESEARCH-PIER. - 1559-8985 .- 1070-4698. ; 114, s. 469-479
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A correlation spectroscopy (COSPEC) based on a multi-wavelength fiber laser is first proposed for the detection of gas concentration. The lasing wavelengths are selected to match several characteristic absorption peaks of the gas under test, and the gas concentration is easily measured by correlating it with the reference gas. The present method is immune from the instability of the light source and the influence of other gases. The concentration measurement of C2H2 is demonstrated in the experiment in its near-infrared dominant absorption region. The technique has prospects for simultaneous detection of multiple gases, and the measurement of mixed gases of C2H2 and CO2 is also analyzed.

  • Artesunate-induced ATG5-related autophagy enhances the cytotoxicity of NK92 cells on endometrial cancer cells via interactions between CD155 and CD226/TIGIT
  • 2021
  • In: International Immunopharmacology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1567-5769. ; 97
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC) is the most prevalent gynecologic cancer in developed countries and lacks efficient therapeutic strategies. Artesunate (ART), a well-modified derivate of artemisinin, exerts potent anti-cancer effects apart from its classical anti-malaria feature. Autophagy is a universal double-edged process in cell survival, and CD155 is a novel immune checkpoint highly expressed in numerous cancers. However, the relationships among ART, autophagy, and CD155 remain unclear in UCEC. In this study, we discovered that ART not only inhibited proliferation and migration, promoted apoptosis, but also induced autophagy in UCEC cells. Meanwhile, ART-induced autophagy elevated the level of CD155 in UCEC cells, thereby enhancing the cytotoxicity of natural killer cell line (NK92) by modulating the interactions between CD155 and its receptors in NK92 cells via upregulation of co-stimulator CD226 and downregulation of co-inhibitor TIGIT. Additionally, ART regulated CD155 partially via ATG5, and knockdown of ATG5 dampened the expression of CD155 in UCEC cells, thus decreasing the cytotoxicity of NK92 cells. Therefore, this study demonstrated the dual anti-cancer effects of ART as it could induce cell-killing directly and indirectly, which provides novel insights into the anti-cancer mechanisms of ART on UCEC.

  • Low Coherent Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry Interrogates Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors
  • 2010
  • In: Journal of Lightwave Technology. - 0733-8724 .- 1558-2213. ; 28:21, s. 3409-3414
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A novel fiber optical reflectometry is proposed for long distance measurements and sensing applications. The reflectrometric information is included in the phase difference of two interfering light beams reflected at the same scattering point on the fiber under test (FUT). The reflection position and local information can be determined by modulating the frequency difference and analyzing the reflecting signal in frequency domain. Theoretical analysis and experimental demonstration are presented. Two adjacent reflection points 50 km away from the reflectometry with a gap of 11 meters between each other is distinguished. It is estimated that the operating range could be over 500 km theoretically by employing a light source with 0.3 nm bandwidth. This novel reflectometry is applied as a fiber Bragg grating interrogation solution as an example.
