Study of the unbound nucleus 11N by elastic resonance scattering

Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- Resonances in the unbound nucleus 11N have been studied, using the resonance scattering reaction 10C+p. The data give evidence for three states above the 10C+p threshold with energies 1.30, 2.04, and 3.72 MeV. These states can be interpreted, in a potential-model analysis, as the ground state and the first two excited states with spin-parity 1 / 2+, 1 / 2-, and 5 / 2+ arising from the shell-model orbitals 1s1 / 2, 0p1 / 2, and 0d5 / 2. A narrow state superposed on a broad structure found at higher energy could be interpreted as the mirror state of the 3 / 2- in 11Be shifted down in energy. This shift would suggest a large radius of the potential.

Elucidating halo structure by beta decay: beta gamma from the Li-11 decay
- 1997
-
In: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 55:1, s. R8-R11
-
Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- New values for the gamma ray intensities following the beta decay of Li-11 are presented. Special emphasis is put on the determination of the Gamow-Teller transition Li-11 --> Be-11 (1/2(-), 320 keV) to the only bound excited state in Be-11. We show that a shell-model calculation can simultaneously reproduce the half-life of Li-11 and the newly measured branching ratio to the 1/2(-) state provided the Li-11 ground state wave function contains about 50% of s-wave neutron components.

Ar-31 examined: New limit on the beta-delayed three-proton branch
- 1999
-
In: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 59:4, s. 2275-2277
-
Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- We have remeasured the decay of Ar-31 with a setup sensitive to multiparticle decay branches and obtained. a new limit of 1.1 x 10(-3) (99% C.L.) on the beta-delayed three-proton branch between the isobaric analog state in Cl-31 and the ground state of Si-28. This a factor of 17 below the previously reported first observation of beta-delayed three-proton emission in Ar-31. The limit on a possible beta 3p branch to the first excited state in Si-28 is 2.9 x 10(-4). [S0556-2813(99)04404-0].

Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- Yrast states of [Formula Presented] have been investigated in the [Formula Presented] reaction using in-beam [Formula Presented]-spectroscopic methods and in the [Formula Presented] reaction performing delayed [Formula Presented] and conversion electron studies. A new isomeric state was found at 103 keV with [Formula Presented] The number of states and transitions in the proposed level scheme have been doubled. The experimental results are discussed within the framework of the shell model. © 1999 The American Physical Society.

Production of neutron-rich nuclides and radioactive beams by intermediate energy 238 U fission
- 1997
-
In: Physical Review C. - 2469-9993 .- 2469-9985. ; 55:5, s. 2146-2149
-
Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- The yields of neutron-rich fission fragments from the interaction of 20 MeV/nucleon 238U with 208Pb have been measured. The production mechanism of these fragments is consistent with sequential fission following a quasielastic or deep inelastic collision. Substantial yields of very n-rich fragments are observed. The importance of these data for generation of n-rich radioactive beams by fission of intermediate-energy projectiles is discussed.

High-resolution measurement of the 12C(γ,p)11B reaction to excited states for Eγ=50–70MeV
- 1998
-
In: Physical Review C: covering nuclear physics. - 2469-9985. ; 58:4, s. 2167-2173
-
Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- Relative population of states in 11B following the 12C(γ,p) reaction has been measured with high resolution using the deexcitation γ-ray technique. The states near 7 MeV in 11B are clearly resolved and the measured population clarifies earlier conflicting data. Comparison of the results with new calculations indicates the importance of both one-nucleon and multinucleon processes.

(γ,n) study of the isovector quadrupole resonance in 40Ca
- 1997
-
In: Physical Review C: covering nuclear physics. - 2469-9985. ; 55:3, s. 1288-1294
-
Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- The forward-to-backward asymmetry of neutrons emitted in the 40Ca(γ,n0) reaction was measured at photon energies in the range of 27–50 MeV. An energy-dependent asymmetry was observed that is interpreted as evidence of interference between the isovector quadrupole resonance and the giant dipole resonance. Data analysis in terms of semiclassical and direct-semidirect models estimate the isovector quadrupole resonance to be at an excitation energy of 31.0±1.5 MeV, with a width of 16.0±1.5 MeV, and exhausting most of the energy-weighted sum rule for the isovector quadrupole resonance.
