- The present study is a perception study that investigates how French L1 speakers evaluate the speech produced by advanced French Lx users that deviates from the pragmatic norms of the local community. More specifically, this exploratory study investigates how conventional expressions that displayed pragmalinguistic or sociopragmatic deviances affected the raters' (N = 62) evaluation of perceived communicative effectiveness and perceived likeability of the speakers in imagined intercultural encounters. Results from the study revealed that deviances were generally judged more severely on both evaluative dimensions than the target conventional expressions. Interestingly, however, findings also showed that deviances that partly included the pragmalinguistic or sociopragmatic resources preferred by target community members were evaluated positively. Methodological recommendations to pursue this new line of inquiry in the field of intercultural pragmatics are also discussed.

Revealing Hidden Orbital Pseudospin Texture with Time-Reversal Dichroism in Photoelectron Angular Distributions

- We performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) of bulk 2H-WSe2 for different crystal orientations linked to each other by time-reversal symmetry. We introduce a new observable called time-reversal dichroism in photoelectron angular distributions (TRDAD), which quantifies the modulation of the photoemission intensity upon effective time-reversal operation. We demonstrate that the hidden orbital pseudospin texture leaves its imprint on TRDAD, due to multiple orbital interference effects in photoemission. Our experimental results are in quantitative agreement with both the tight-binding model and state-of-the-art fully relativistic calculations performed using the one-step model of photoemission. While spin-resolved ARPES probes the spin component of entangled spin-orbital texture in multiorbital systems, we unambiguously demonstrate that TRDAD reveals its orbital pseudospin texture counterpart.

- Mutations in the PTEN gene are associated with a broad spectrum of disorders, including Cowden syndrome (CS), Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcaba syndrome, Proteus syndrome, and Lhermitte-Duclos disease. In addition, PTEN mutations have been described in a few patients with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and macrocephaly. In this study, we screened the PTEN gene for mutations and deletions in 88 patients with ASDs and macrocephaly (defined as >or=2 SD above the mean). Mutation analysis was performed by direct sequencing of all exons and flanking regions, as well as the promoter region. Dosage analysis of PTEN was carried out using multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA). No partial or whole gene deletions were observed. We identified a de novo missense mutation (D326N) in a highly conserved amino acid in a 5-year-old boy with autism, mental retardation, language delay, extreme macrocephaly (+9.6 SD) and polydactyly of both feet. Polydactyly has previously been described in two patients with Lhermitte-Duclos disease and CS and is thus likely to be a rare sign of PTEN mutations. Our findings suggest that PTEN mutations are a relatively infrequent cause of ASDs with macrocephaly. Screening of PTEN mutations is warranted in patients with autism and pronounced macrocephaly, even in the absence of other features of PTEN-related tumor syndromes.

- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a treatment originally developed för chronically suicidal adults. It is common to adapt it by using one specific component, the DBT skills training (DBT-ST) and apply it in a group therapy setting for a variety of mental disorders. The primary aim of the study was to explore whether patients with extended care needs would report improved mental health after participating in an intensive form of DBT-ST. The secondary aim was to explore whether the use of psychiatric inpatient care for the group would decrease.Thirty-seven participants completed the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation - Outcome Measure (CORE-OM), and visual analogue scale (VAS) at three time points: pre-intervention, post-intervention and at 6-month follow-up after intensive DBT-ST.One-way ANOVA showed a significant effect for time on the CORE-OM: F (2,35)=7.93, p=.001, η2=0.312 (large effect size). Post hoc tests indicated a significant difference between pre-intervention and post-intervention (p=.001) and between pre-intervention and follow-up (p=.01). A Friedman test indicated a statistically significant difference in the VAS scale scores across the three time points, with p-values between 0.00 and 0.05. There was no difference in psychiatric healthcare consumption.These study results confirm to some extent the feasibility and effectiveness of the intensive DBT-ST in a transdiagnostic clinical setting. The participants had a positive outcome from the skills training program, but psychiatric healthcare consumption did not decrease.

Characterization of the 'White' Appearing Clots that Cause Acute Ischemic Stroke

- Objectives: Most clots retrieved from patients with acute ischemic stroke are 'red' in color. 'White' clots represent a less common entity and their histological composition is less known. Our aim was to investigate the composition, imaging and procedural characteristics of 'white' clots retrieved by mechanical thrombectomy. Materials and methods: Seventy five 'white' thrombi were selected by visual inspection from a cohort of 760 clots collected as part of the RESTORE registry. Clots were evaluated histopathologically. Results: Quantification of Martius Scarlett Blue stain identified platelets/other as the major component in 'white' clots' (mean of 55% of clot overall composition) followed by fibrin (31%), red blood cells (6%) and white blood cells (3%). 'White' clots contained significantly more platelets/other (p<0.001*) and collagen/calcification (p<0.001*) and less red blood cells (p<0.001*) and white blood cells (p=0.018*) than 'red' clots. The mean platelet and von Willebrand Factor expression was 43% and 24%, respectively. Adipocytes were found in four cases. 'White' clots were significantly smaller (p=0.016*), less hyperdense (p=0.005*) on computed tomography angiography/non-contrast CT and were associated with a smaller extracted clot area (p<0.001*) than 'red' clots. They primarily caused the occlusion of middle cerebral artery, were less likely to be removed by aspiration and more likely to require rescue-therapy for retrieval. Conclusions: 'White' clots represented 14% of our cohort and were platelet, von Willebrand Factor and collagen/calcification-rich. 'White' clots were smaller, less hyperdense, were associated with significantly more distal occlusions and were less successfully removed by aspiration alone than 'red' clots.

- HD-automata are a syntax-independent operational model introduced for dealing with history-dependent formalisms. This kind of enriched automata, where states, transitions, and labels are equipped with names and symmetries, have been successfully applied for modelling early and late bisimulation in pi-calculus and hyperbisimulation in Fusion calculus. However, current HD-automata are not adequate for modelling open bisimulation, because in HD-automata two names cannot be unified, while open bisimulation is closed under all possible name substitution respecting name distinctions. In this paper we tackle the problem by integrating in the definition of named sets, the basic building blocks of HD-automata, a notion of distinction: names can coalesce if the distinction allows to. Then, we use HD-automata over named sets with distinctions for modelling the open bisimulation of pi-calculus. Finally, we discuss the relationship between named sets with distinctions and their HD-automata, with the categorical counterparts based on presheaf categories.
