In Facklan, Waldemar Lönnbeck published translated articles written by British and American conservative scientists, while Axel B. Svensson’s Nya Väktaren had a more national and popular profile, which included edifying articles. The editors of the two monthly journals acted as brothers-in-arms but competed in the same market of Evangelical Christians. They developed a strongly polemical style in their criticism of contemporary phenomena. While Lönnbeck identified the materialism of modern science as a major threat to traditional Christian faith, Svensson related to the Bible-view debate within the Swedish Evangelical Mission.
