    • Digital anamorphosis is used to define a distorted image of health and care that may be viewed correctly using digital tools and strategies. MASK digital anamorphosis represents the process used by MASK to develop the digital transformation of health and care in rhinitis. It strengthens the ARIA change management strategy in the prevention and management of airway disease. The MASK strategy is based on validated digital tools. Using the MASK digital tool and the CARAT online enhanced clinical framework, solutions for practical steps of digital enhancement of care are proposed.

  • Wind resource assessment and economic analysis for electricity generation in three locations of the Republic of Djibouti

    • In the Republic of Djibouti, due to increasing electricity demands, the government has planned to increase power supply by using renewable resources such as geothermal, solar and wind energy. This work presents the first wind resource assessment in the Republic of Djibouti using measured wind speed data for the period of three years by meteorological stations at eight locations. The results confirmed that three of the eight locations (i.e. GaliMa-aba, Ghoubbet and Bada Wein) have the best resource, with mean annual wind speeds of more than 6.0 m/s. Wind simulations using NCEP-CFSR and ERA5 models reanalysis shows that the seasonal variations are stable between different years and are broadly consistent with the observed wind speed. The feasibility of three wind farms with total capacity of 275 MW at GaliMa-aba, Ghoubbet and Bada Wein is examined. Using the WindPRO program and two commercial wind turbines in according to IEC 61400-1 design criteria, the electricity generation were technically assessed. These wind farms can produce 1073 GWh of electricity per year, approximately equal to Djibouti's expected average annual electrical demand in 2030. The economic evaluation using the present value cost (PVC) method estimate that the generation cost per kWh at these locations varies from 7.03 US.$ cent/kWh to 9.67 US.$ cent/kWh. Elsevier Ltd.     • OBJECTIVE: Somalia has high rates of maternal mortality, fertility and pregnancy among young women. Factors contributing to this situation are a lack of knowledge regarding sexual and reproductive health, early marriages, cultural norms and the unmet need for or use of contraceptives. This study aimed to explore the perceptions of family planning among young men and women with tertiary education in Mogadishu.METHODS: A purposeful and convenience strategy using snowballing was used to recruit participants. Four focus group discussions were held online with 26 young women and men aged 19-25 years old. All participants were studying at five different universities in Mogadishu, and only one participant was married. The data were analysed using thematic analysis.FINDINGS: The findings showed that participants objected to the concept of family planning but supported the concept of child spacing. They highlighted that people of their generation with tertiary education practise child spacing to combine careers with family life. Although all the participants knew of the benefits of child spacing, they had different opinions on whether modern contraceptive methods were an option for them. They were more comfortable with traditional contraceptive methods and believed that the quality of the modern contraceptive medicine available in the country was unreliable.CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that it is crucial not only to include young people in family planning awareness initiatives and implementation but also to give them a voice to advocate family planning and start dialogues within their own communities.

  • A global metagenomic map of urban microbiomes and antimicrobial resistance

    • We present a global atlas of 4,728 metagenomic samples from mass-transit systems in 60 cities over 3 years, representing the first systematic, worldwide catalog of the urban microbial ecosystem. This atlas provides an annotated, geospatial profile of microbial strains, functional characteristics, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) markers, and genetic elements, including 10,928 viruses, 1,302 bacteria, 2 archaea, and 838,532 CRISPR arrays not found in reference databases. We identified 4,246 known species of urban microorganisms and a consistent set of 31 species found in 97% of samples that were distinct from human commensal organisms. Profiles of AMR genes varied widely in type and density across cities. Cities showed distinct microbial taxonomic signatures that were driven by climate and geographic differences. These results constitute a high-resolution global metagenomic atlas that enables discovery of organisms and genes, highlights potential public health and forensic applications, and provides a culture-independent view of AMR burden in cities.

  • Comparative LC-LTQ-MS-MS Analysis of the Leaf Extracts of Lantana camara and Lantana montevidensis Growing in Egypt with Insights into Their Antioxidant, Anti-Inflammatory, and Cytotoxic Activities

    • Lantana camara L. and Lantana montevidensis Briq. (F. Verbenaceae) are invasive ornamental weeds native to the tropical regions of Africa and America. The leaves of both species have been traditionally used as infusions for treating fever, rheumatism, and cancer. LC-MS-MS-guided profiling of the methanolic extracts of the leaves of L. camara and L. montevidensis growing in Egypt led to the putative identification of 59 compounds belonging to terpenoids, flavonoids, iridoid glycosides, phenolic acids, and their derivatives. The in vitro antioxidants and anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of the two extracts were investigated. L. camara and L. montevidensis inhibited DPPH center dot (IC50 = 34.01 +/- 1.32 and 47.43 +/- 1.74 mu g/ mL), ABTS (IC50 = 30.73 +/- 1.42 and 40.37 +/- 1.51 mu g/mL), and superoxide anion (IC50 = 1.57 +/- 0.19 and 1.31 +/- 0.14 mu g/mL) free radicals. A potent antiinflammatory effect was observed for both species through the inhibition of elastase release in fMLF/CB-induced human neutrophils (IC50 = 2.40 +/- 0.16 and 1.90 +/- 0.07 mu g/mL). The extracts showed significant cytotoxic activity against a panel of cancer cell lines with the most potent activity against Caco cells (IC50 = 45.65 +/- 1.64 and 40.67 +/- 1.52 mu g /mL for L. camara and L. montevidensis, respectively). Western blotting supported by FACS analysis revealed that the extracts inhibited cancer cell proliferation, reduced metastasis, and induced apoptosis resulting in cell cycle arrest. This was achieved via increasing mRNA and protein expressions of p53 and GSK-313 as well as decreasing the expression of PI3K, Akt, and cyclin D1.

    • Studying the charge dynamics of perovskite materials is a crucial step to understand the outstanding performance of these materials in various fields. Herein, we utilize transient absorption in the mid-infrared region, where solely electron signatures in the conduction bands are monitored without external contributions from other dynamical species. Within the measured range of 4000 nm to 6000 nm (2500–1666 cm−1), the recombination and the trapping processes of the excited carriers could be easily monitored. Moreover, we reveal that within this spectral region the trapping process could be distinguished from recombination process, in which the iodide-based films show more tendencies to trap the excited electrons in comparison to the bromide-based derivatives. The trapping process was assigned due to the emission released in the mid-infrared region, while the traditional band-gap recombination process did not show such process. Various parameters have been tested such as film composition, excitation dependence and the probing wavelength. This study opens new frontiers for the transient mid-infrared absorption to assign the trapping process in perovskite films both qualitatively and quantitatively, along with the potential applications of perovskite films in the mid-IR region.

    • Abstract LTE and LTE-Advanced mobile technologies have integrated discontinuous reception (DRX) power saving method to optimize the power consumption at the user equipment (UE). The DRX method was proposed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and since then, the traffic behavior has been analyzed in several studies with a standard 3-state DRX model to describe the trade-off between power saving and delay. In this paper, we presented a novel 4-state and 5-state 3GPP LTE DRX mechanisms. The proposed mechanisms were developed by augmenting (an) active state(s) to deep and/or light sleep cycle of standard 3-state DRX for handling a small burst of packets, thereby bypassing the process of returning to the timer-dependent active mode. We have generated analytical models using a semi-Markov process for bursty packet data traffic and evaluated these augmented DRX mechanisms against a standard 3-state DRX method. Overall, the analytical results from varying timing parameters showed that our augmented DRX (both 4-state and 5-state) improved power saving factor (ranging between 1% and 8%) and reduced delay (ranging between 20% and 60%) compared to the standard 3-state DRX. Furthermore, the magnitude of improvement for both delay and power-saving was somewhat greater in 5-state than 4-state.
