- In this paper, a multi-scale model is used to assess the multiple mineral precipitation potential in a full-scale anaerobic granular sludge system. Reactor behaviour is analysed under different operational conditions (addition/no addition of reject water from dewatering of lime-stabilized biomass) and periods of time (short/long term). Model predictions suggest that a higher contribution of reject water promotes the risk of intra-granule CaCO3 formation as a result of the increased quantity of calcium arriving with that stream combined with strong pH gradients within the biofilm. The distribution of these precipitates depends on: (i) reactor height; and (ii) granule size. The study also exposes the potential undesirable effects of the long-term addition of reject water (a decrease in energy recovery of 20% over a 100-day period), caused by loss in biomass activity (due to microbial displacement), and the reduced buffer capacity. This demonstrates how both short-term and long-term operational conditions may affect the formation of precipitates within anaerobic granules, and how it may influence methane production and consequently energy recovery.

- For a compact group G we define the Beurling-Fourier algebra A(omega)(G) on G for weights omega: (G) over cap -> R(>0). The classical Fourier algebra corresponds to the case omega is the constant weight I. We study the Gelfand spectrum of the algebra realising it as a subset of the complexification G(C) defined by McKennon and Cartwright and McMullen. In many cases, such as for polynomial weights, the spectrum is simply G. We discuss the questions when the algebra A(omega)(G) is symmetric and regular. We also obtain various results concerning spectral synthesis for A(omega)(G).

- In this article I argue that On Suffocation relies on paratexts in order to articulate what I take to be its most important message. I foreground a few of these paratexts, especially Facebook postings and a festival Q&A session, in order to illustrate how they contribute to the film’s meaning.

- Vi lär oss motsatser mycket tidigt, och dessa verkar spela en grundläggande roll då vi uppfattar och talar om världen. I litteratur om språk, semantik och filosofi finns olika typer av motsatsord beskrivna. Ofta är det samma exempel som används för att illustrera motsatstyperna: för artmotsats är det levande–död och kvinna–man som anförs. Utgångspunkten för min undersökning var hypotesen att dessa ordpar inte är så bra exempel på motsatser som litteraturen hittills har hävdat. Syftet med undersökningen var att studera hur motsatser, som levande–död, kan beskrivas inom kognitiv teori. Resultaten visade att motsatsparet både uppvisar symmetri (vilket var förväntat utifrån tidigare forskning) och asymmetri (vilket inte var förväntat). Ett exempel på asymmetri kan vara att i vardagligt tal står Hon är död och hon lever som varandras motsatser, dvs. mot adjektivet död står ett verb (lever). För att redogöra för asymmetrierna bör aspekter som markerat–omarkerat, informationsvärde och aktionsart tas i beaktande. Mina resultat visar att två ord är motsatser i högre eller lägre grad, snarare än att två ord antingen är, eller inte är, motsatser.
