    • Culture change probably occurs in all national cultures. It is a continuous process which might be accelerated under specific conditions. One of possible catalysts is resettlement of individuals or groups to another country. We believe that analyzing such accelerated culture change can provide valuable insights regarding the nature of cultural transformations. In order to investigate that, the study examines experiences of immigrants from the Russian Federation, Iran and the People’s Republic of China living in Sweden. The focus is on tracing the changes of cultural values and behavioral practices. Which values are more stable during acculturation and which are relatively flexible? Which cultural values do immigrants preserve and which do they take over from the host country? The study is based on nineteen in-depth interviews and presents examples of cultural changes and their causes in the three groups. This study reveals that cultural change may be seen as an undulation process with regard to the residence time of immigrants and the width and depth of communication with the host society. Several hypotheses stimulating and restraining culture change are discussed.
