    • In this paper, we report the results of a systematic study of the scaling effects of Young's modulus of nanowires of body-centered cubic iron. The investigation is performed by employing molecular statics tensile simulations. Two different crystallographic orientations are studied. The simulations show that there is a size dependence in Young's modulus, where the different crystallographic orientations display completely different behaviors.

    • The crack-driving force may be defined in the context of a material force, which is the measure of the energy release rate due to a virtual extension of the crack tip. In this contribution the global energy dissipation due to crack extension in inelastic media is considered in establishing the pertinent material force.

    • In this paper, a model of the conventional engine mount is developed and the nonlinear behavior of dynamic stiffness and damping of the engine mounts of commercial vehicles are investigated. The model comprises elastic, viscous and friction functional components and expresses the stiffness and damping of the mount as a function of frequency and amplitude of harmonic excitation. Optimization is done to identify model parameters using measurements for real elastomeric engine mounts.
