  • A MonoSLAM Approach to Lane Departure Warning System
  • 2014
  • In: 2014 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM 2014). - 9781479957378 ; , s. 640-645
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) systems are one of the widely researched topics under Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), because they are seen as the most viable way to prevent the traffic accidents caused by involuntary lane departures from happening. Various methods and algorithms used for lane tracking to be used in LDW in the literature; however, most of them only track the lanes or the position of the vehicle inside the lane. This article introduces MonoSLAM based method for LDW design, assuming that the camera is moving in a previously unknown scene. While applying this method, a constant lateral velocity model for the vehicle is used, which assumes that the vehicle is exposed to undetermined Gaussian lateral accelerations. As the first output, the localization of the vehicle on the road is achieved. Moreover, the method is applied with a low cost webcam attached on a vehicle. Five control points for each lane is used to track the lanes and these control points are modelled as if they have a constant position. Detection is made with steerable filters exploiting the state covariance from EKF to make detection more robust. In addition to this, off-line experimental results are given for 200 frames. Results of lane slope on image plane compared with ground truth marked manually for performance benchmarking and localization estimation of a scenario similar to loop closure test is given.

  • Exploring the Role of Manufacturing Parameters on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Using PETG
  • 2021
  • In: Applied Composite Materials. - : Springer Nature. - 0929-189X .- 1573-4897. ; 28:6, s. 1799-1828
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Additive manufacturing develops rapidly, especially, fused deposition modeling (FDM) is one of the economical methods with moderate tolerances and high design flexibility. Ample studies are being undertaken for modeling the mechanical characteristics of FDM by using the Finite Element Method (FEM). Even in use of amorphous materials, FDM creates anisotropic structures effected by the chosen manufacturing parameters. In order to investigate these process-related characteristics and tailored properties of FDM structures, we prepare FDM-printed poly(ethylene terephthalate) glycol (PETG) samples with different process parameters. Mechanical and optical characterizations are carried out. We develop 2D-digital-image-correlation code with machine learning algorithm, namely K-means cluster, to analyze microstructures (contact surfaces, the changes in fiber shapes) and calculate porosity. By incorporating these characteristics, we draw CAD images. A digital twin of mechanical laboratory tests are realized by the FEM. We use computational homogenization approach for obtaining the effective properties of the FDM-related anisotropic structure. These simulations are validated by experimental characterizations. In this regard, a systematic methodology is presented for acquiring the anisotropy from the process related inner substructure (microscale) to the material response at the homogenized length scale (macroscale). We found out that the layer thickness and overlap ratio parameters significantly alter the microstructures and thereby, stiffness of the macroscale properties.

  • Search for Higgs Boson Pair Production in the γγbb[over ¯] Final State Using pp Collision Data at sqrt[s]=8 TeV from the ATLAS Detector.
  • 2015
  • In: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 114:8
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Searches are performed for resonant and nonresonant Higgs boson pair production in the γγbb[over ¯] final state using 20 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. A 95% confidence level upper limit on the cross section times branching ratio of nonresonant production is set at 2.2 pb, while the expected limit is 1.0 pb. The difference derives from a modest excess of events, corresponding to 2.4 standard deviations from the background-only hypothesis. The limit observed in the search for a narrow X→hh resonance ranges between 0.7 and 3.5 pb as a function of the resonance mass.
