    • Using a data sample of (448.1 +/- 2.9) x 10(6) psi (3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we present measurements of branching fractions for the decays X-cJ -> Sigma(+) (Sigma) over bar (-) and Sigma(0) (Sigma) over bar (0) The decays X-c1.2 -> Sigma(+) (Sigma) over bar (-) and Sigma (Sigma) over bar (0) are observed for the first time, and the branching fractions for X-c0 -> Sigma(+) (Sigma) over bar (-) and Sigma(0) (Sigma) over bar (0) decays are measured with improved precision. The branching fraction ratios between the charged and neutral modes are consistent with the prediction of isospin symmetry.

  • Measurement of integrated luminosity and center-of-mass energy of data taken by BESIII at √s=2.125 GeV

    • To study the nature of the state Y (2175), a dedicated data set of e(+)e(-) collision data was collected at the center-of-mass energy of 2.125 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. By analyzing large-angle Bhabha scattering events, the integrated luminosity of this data set is determined to be 108.49 +/- 0.02 +/- 0.85 pb(-1), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic. In addition, the center-of-mass energy of the data set is determined with radiative dimuon events to be 2126.55 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.85 MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic.

  • Synthesis and Structure of a Layered Fluoroaluminophosphate and Its Transformation to a Three-Dimensional Zeotype Framework

    • Two-dimensional zeolitic materials have drawn increasing attention because of their structural diversity, high accessible surface areas, and potential as precursors to form novel three-dimensional (3D) structures. Here we report a new layered fluoroaluminophosphate, denoted as EMM-9 (ExxonMobil Material #9), synthesized in the same synthesis system as that for a previously reported 3D framework structure EMM-8 (framework-type code: SFO) using an F- medium and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) as the organic structure-directing agent. The structure of EMM-9 was solved from rotation electron diffraction data and refined against synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction data. The fluoroaluminophosphate layer of EMM-9 is composed of sti composite building units. The DMAP cations are located between the layers. pi-pi interactions between the DMAP cations and hydrogen bonding between the DMAP cations and layers were identified. The layered EMM-9 structure is closely related to the 3D framework structure of EMM-8 and can be transformed to EMM-8 by calcination.

    • The roles that adventitious roots play in flooding tolerance have been well-studied in willows, while which of the maximum height of adventitious roots and the abundance of adventitious roots in willows is more important for their flooding tolerance is not well known. In this study, we analyzed the effects of adventitious roots on the flooding tolerance of Salix cavaleriei by comparing the maximum height of adventitious roots and the abundance of adventitious roots in dead and live willows along a flooding gradient from 0 to 180 cm in Lake Erhai, China. The results showed that willow mortality increased drastically when the water depth suffered by willows exceeded 100 cm. Live willows developed more adventitious roots and produced them higher on the trees compared with dead willows, however, the pest infestation percentage of the dead willows was larger. Additionally, both the maximum height and the abundance of adventitious roots in live willows were significantly correlated with water depth, whereas in dead willows, these variables were not significantly correlated or only weakly correlated with water depth. The results indicate that producing adventitious roots higher on the trees may be more important than developing abundant adventitious roots lower on the trees when S. cavaleriei is subjected to high flooding levels. Our data highlight that a faster adventitious root response promotes this species’ survival under flood stress, although pest infestation accounts for a small percentage of willow mortality. Accordingly, we should choose those willows that can develop more abundant adventitious roots and higher on the stems to plant in regions with abrupt water-level fluctuations.

    • Anti-VEGF-based antiangiogenic drugs are designed to block tumor angiogenesis for treatment of cancer patients. However, anti-VEGF drugs produce off-tumor target effects on multiple tissues and organs and cause broad adverse effects. Here, we show that vasculatures in endocrine organs were more sensitive to anti-VEGF treatment than tumor vasculatures. In thyroid, adrenal glands, and pancreatic islets, systemic treatment with low doses of an anti-VEGF neutralizing antibody caused marked vascular regression, whereas tumor vessels remained unaffected. Additionally, a low dose of VEGF blockade significantly inhibited the formation of thyroid vascular fenestrae, leaving tumor vascular structures unchanged. Along with vascular structural changes, the low dose of VEGF blockade inhibited vascular perfusion and permeability in thyroid, but not in tumors. Prolonged treatment with the low-dose VEGF blockade caused hypertension and significantly decreased circulating levels of thyroid hormone free-T3 and -T4, leading to functional impairment of thyroid. These findings show that the fenestrated microvasculatures in endocrine organs are more sensitive than tumor vasculatures in response to systemic anti-VEGF drugs. Thus, our data support the notion that clinically nonbeneficial treatments with anti-VEGF drugs could potentially cause adverse effects.
