Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- We present a measurement of the double longitudinal spin asymmetry in inclusive pi(0) production in polarized proton-proton collisions at roots=200 GeV. The data were taken at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider with average beam polarizations of 0.27. The measurements are the first in a program to study the longitudinal spin structure of the proton, using strongly interacting probes, at collider energies. The asymmetry is presented for transverse momenta 1-5 GeV/c at midrapidity, where next-to-leading-order perturbative quantum chromodynamic (NLO pQCD) calculations well describe the unpolarized cross section. The observed asymmetry is small and is compared to a NLO pQCD calculation with a range of polarized gluon distributions.

- We give the emission function of the axially symmetric Buda-Lund hydro, model and present its simultaneous, high quality fits to identified particle spectra, two-particle Bose-Einstein or HBT correlations and charged particle pseudorapidity distributions as measured by BRAHMS and PHENIX in 0-30% central, roots(NN) = 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. The best fit is achieved when the most central region of the particle emitting volume is superheated to T-0 = 200 +/- 9 MeV greater than or equal to T-c = 172 +/- 3 MeV, a 3 sigma effect.

- We present simultaneous, quality fits to final BRAHMS, PHOBOS, STAR and PHENIX data on particle spectra and two-particle Bose-Einstein or HBT correlations as measured in Au+Au collisions at root(S)NN = 130 GeV. Using the Buda-Lund hydro model, the best fit is achieved when the most central 1/8th of the particle emitting volume is superheated to T > T-c = 170 MeV. In contrast, we find no indication for such a hot central region in a similar analysis of Pb+Pb data at CERN SPS.

Buda-Lund hydro model and the elliptic flow at RHIC

- The ellipsoidally symmetric Buda-Lund hydrodynamic model describes naturally the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity dependence of the elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at roots(NN) = 130 and 200 GeV. The result confirms the indication of quark deconfinement in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, obtained from Buda-Lund hydro model fits to combined spectra and HBT radii of BRAHMS, PHOBOS, PHENIX and STAR.

Buda-Lund hydro model for ellipsoidally symmetric fireballs and the elliptic flow at RHIC

Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- The ellipsoidally symmetric extension of Buda-Lund hydrodynamic model is shown here to yield a natural description of the pseudorapidity dependence of the elliptic flow upsilon(2)(eta)), as determined recently by the PHOBOS experiment for Au + Au collisions at root(S)NN = 130 and 200 GeV. With the same set of parameters, the Buda-Lund model describes also the transverse momentum dependence of upsilon(2) of identified particles at mid-rapidity. The results confirm the indication for quark deconfinement in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, obtained from a successful Buda-Lund hydro model fit to the single particle spectra and two-particle correlation data, as measured by the BRAHMS, PHOBOS, PHENIX and STAR Collaborations. Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
- Buda-Lund hydro-model fits are compared to BRAHMS, PHENIX, PHOBOS and STAR data on identified particle spectra, two-particle Bose-Einstein or HBT correlations, charged particle pseudorapidity distributions and pseudorapidity as well as PT dependent elliptic flow in rootS(NN) = 130 and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Preliminary results indicate that 7/8 of the particle emitting volume is rather cold, with surface temperature of 105 MeV, but the temperature has a distribution and the most central 1/8 of the volume is superheated to temperatures above the critical value, T(x) > T-c = 172 3 MeV.
