    • Cryptographic operations are essential for many security-critical systems. Reasoning about information flow in such systems is challenging because typical (noninterference-based) information-flow definitions allow no flow from secret to public data. Unfortunately, this implies that programs with encryption are ruled out because encrypted output depends on secret inputs: the plaintext and the key. However, it is desirable to allow flows arising from encryption with secret keys provided that the underlying cryptographic algorithm is strong enough. In this paper we conservatively extend the noninterference definition to allow safe encryption, decryption, and key generation. To illustrate the usefulness of this approach, we propose (and implement) a type system that guarantees noninterference for a small imperative language with primitive cryptographic operations. The type system prevents dangerous program behavior (e.g., giving away a secret key or confusing keys and non-keys), which we exemplify with secure implementations of cryptographic protocols. Because the model is based on a standard noninterference property, it allows us to develop some natural extensions. In particular, we consider public-key cryptography and integrity, which accommodate reasoning about primitives that are vulnerable to chosen-ciphertext attacks.

    • Supercapacitor electrodes are often made of porous carbon materials such as activated carbon, but also graphene was frequently used as active electrode material. Graphene can be produced by mechanical exfoliation, chemical exfoliation, chemical vapor deposition or other elaborate methods. These techniques are relatively expensive and produce small quantities only. Recently we presented a method to produce nanographite and graphene by mechanical exfoliation of graphite in a high-pressure homogenizer. In our contribution “Large-scale production of graphene” by Nicklas Blomquist we suggest to optimize the geometry of the shear zone and increase the feeding pressure to obtain a higher yield.In this study we evaluated the influence of these process optimizations on the structural and electrical properties of the nanographite-graphene mixture. The produced dispersions were characterized in terms of particle size and shape by using a particle size analyzer, a transmission electron microscope (TEM) and an atomic force microscope (AFM). In order to analyze the performance of the produced material as electrodes for supercapacitors, electrodes were produced by vacuum filtration. The electrodes were studied by sheet-resistance and capacitance measurements. Furthermore, the structure of the electrode surface and the cross section of the electrode were visualized by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM).Comparisons with previously produced nanographite-graphene dispersions showed an increase in yield of the exfoliated nanomaterials. The optimized shear zone increased the production of nanosized particles and flakes and enhanced the material quality.

    • The homeobox transcription factor PROX1 is essential for the development and maintenance of lymphatic vasculature. How PROX1 regulates lymphatic endothelial cell fate remains undefined. PROX1 has been shown to upregulate the expression of Cyclin E, which mediates the G1 to S transition of the cell cycle. Here we demonstrate that PROX1 activates the mouse Cyclin E1 (Ccne1) promoter via two proximal E2F-binding sites. We have determined that the N-terminal region of PROX1 is sufficient to activate a 1-kb Ccne1 promoter, whereas the homeodomain is dispensable for activation. We have identified that the Prospero domain 1 (PD1) is required for the nuclear localization of PROX1. Our comparison of two DNA-binding-deficient constructs of PROX1 showed a cell-type-specific difference between these two proteins in both their localization and function. We demonstrated that siRNA-mediated knockdown of PROX1 in lymphatic endothelial cells decreases progression from G1 to S phase of the cell cycle. We conclude that PROX1 activates the Ccne1 promoter independent of DNA binding, and our results illustrate a novel role for PROX1 in the regulation of lymphatic endothelial cell proliferation.

  • Stratigraphy and U-Pb detrital zircon geochronology of Wrangel Island, Russia : Implications for Arctic paleogeography

    • Wrangel Island represents a small but unique exposure of Neoproterozoic basement and its upper Paleozoic and Mesozoic cover within the mostly unexplored East Siberian Shelf. Its geology is critical for testing the continuity of stratigraphic units and structures across the Chukchi Sea from Alaska to Arctic Russia, for evaluating the hydrocarbon potential of this offshore region, and for constraining paleogeography and plate reconstructions of the Arctic. Upper Paleozoic platform carbonates and shales on Wrangel likely match those of the Chukchi Shelf and adjacent North Slope of Alaska (e.g., Sherwood et al., 2002), but Triassic basinal turbidites contrast with Alaska's thin shelfal units. Detrital zircon suites from upper Paleozoic strata on Wrangel reveal that local basement-derived detritus (similar to 500-800 Ma) decreases up section, replaced by 900-2000-Ma zircon populations compatible with a Baltic shield provenance. Cambrian-Ordovician-Silurian zircons (similar to 420-490 Ma) are present in lesser abundance in most samples and are inferred to have been derived from the Arctic part of the Caledonide belt. Triassic detrital zircon suites contrast with those from underlying strata: Precambrian zircons have less of an age range (1700-2000 Ma), and Devonian and younger (<400 Ma) zircons are much more abundant. This change reflects breakup of the carbonate platform during Permian-Triassic rifting, with zircon age populations in Triassic strata compatible with sediment sources in the Urals, Taimyr, and Siberia. Detrital zircon data suggest that Wrangel Island, Chukotka, and northern Alaska (the Arctic Alaska-Chukotka microplate) restore against the Lomonosov Ridge upon closure of the Amerasia Basin and to the edge of the Barents Shelf after closing the Eurasia Basin. The detrital zircon data thus suggest that the Barents Shelf lays close to the paleo-Pacific margin in the early Mesozoic and that subduction-driven tectonics may have been a greater factor in the evolution of the Amerasia Basin of the Arctic than previously suspected.

    • Online dating is continually on the rise and nowadays a widely used and accepted way to find different kinds of companionship. This relatively new interpersonal phenomenon has provided an especially important virtual space for non-heterosexuals. Previous research on behaviors and trends on dating communities online for sexual minorities has focused primarily on sites for gay men in Anglo-Saxon countries. The purpose of the present study is to examine self-presentations on the Nordic LGBTQ online dating scene and possible gender-dependent differences in self-presentation. The Nordic countries are commonly perceived as progressive in issues regarding gender equality and LGBTQ rights. The countries on average also have low population density with large rural areas and consequently limited scenes for non-heterosexuals. A testimony of this is the study’s selected dating site, which is based in Sweden but encompasses the neighboring countries and markets itself as a Nordic meeting venue. The present study embarks on new territory within psychology-, gender-, and queer research by examining self-presentations on a mixed-gender LGBTQ dating site, situated in the supposedly liberal Nordic countries. Based on qualitative and quantitative data from a stratified sample of 716 cis-gendered, predominantly Swedish online dating profiles, on a well-established Nordic online dating site for non-heterosexual men and women, statistical calculations and a thematic analysis (TA) were executed. The findings show that central self-presentations concern mind versus body, lust and longings, and boundaries, where gender frequently functions as the dividing line. Women self-present more through personality and romantic longings compared to men, who to a higher degree emphasizes body, and lust. Self-presentation is also expressed through resistance against boundary-breaking contact on the site. The boundaries that are guarded regard age, anti-racism and most pronounced – boundaries against male harassment of non-heterosexual women. The implications of self-presentation, possible discrimination and misrepresentation on the Nordic LGBTQ online dating scene are discussed.

    • Inom idrotten finns olika forskningstraditioner och ett växande antal akademiska utbildningar. Tanken är att de ska möta idrottens mångfacetterade arbetsmarknad. Men idrottens akademisering är en brokig process där synen på vad som är viktigt skiljer sig åt. Frågorna började komma till mig för cirka tio år sedan: Vad händer efter utbildningen? Finns det relevanta arbeten att söka? Är kunskapen och kompetensen som jag har med mig från utbildningen gångbar på idrottens arbetsmarknad? Jag var då sistaårsstudent vid Idrottsvetenskapligt program på Malmö högskola. Några år senare började jag en forskarutbildning inom vilken jag fick chansen att utveckla och fördjupa frågorna. Intresset vidgades till att inte bara gälla relationen mellan utbildning och arbetsmarknad, utan också till att inkludera forskning.
