- När börjar mediehistorien? Mediehistoria var länge liktydigt med historien om 1900-talets massmedier press, radio, teve och film. I den här boken skildras istället ett äldre medielandskap. Med utgångspunkt i Stockholmsutställningen 1897 beskriver författarna det utbud av gamla och nya medier som samlades på utställningen, från äldre attraktioner som camera obscura, dioramor och vaxfigurer till spektakulära nyheter som fonograf, kinematograf och röntgenbilder. Boken ger inblickar i några av det sena 1800-talets ledande medieindustrier, och diskuterar bland annat frågor om mediekonsumtion, publikpositioner och historiska medieringsvillkor. De medietekniker som presenterades på Stockholmsutställningen 1897 lagrade på samma gång utställningen för framtiden. Ett centralt tema är därför hur dessa medieringar blivit identiska med minnet av utställningen, och hur detta arkiv organiserats utifrån mediernas specifika egenskaper. På den DVD-skiva som medföljer boken har ett nytt mediearkiv skapats över Stockholmsutställningen 1897 och dess många länkar till en bredare mediekultur.

- The aim of the present study is to contribute to the documentation and interpretation of the image and experience of the human body. This image was first formulated in the 16th and 17th centuries by among others René Descartes, and it was given various visual shapes by artists connected with the academies of art from that time on. The intention of my investigation is to discuss some traits of what from an epistemological point of view may be called the growth of the modern profane or rather anatomical body image. The discussion is accompanied by a contrasting section with some reflections on the body image of the old, archaic world.

- This article examines different forms of intermedial relations between x-ray imaging and cinematography in the media culture around 1900, mainly in a Swedish context. With the Stockholm Exhibition of 1897 as one of the focal points, the author argues that these two media were linked in their production, distribution and exhibition as well as in the envisioned audience reception. More specifically, the aim is to show how collaboration and competition between these new media can be understood in relation to nineteenth-century discourses on 'modern magic'. Through the marketing in other media - illustrated books, articles, caricatures and advertising in the press - an expectation was fostered that the x-ray apparatus and the Cinematographe could perform operations that once had been thought of as impossible or magical. In a similar manner, the media industries, scientific performers and entrepreneurial showmen launched x-ray imaging and cinematography as something new, strange and even exotic. In the end it was the cinema that proved to be more successful in inventing new 'magical' tricks, and x-rays were appropriated for other, medical services, but through innovative uses, the moving x-ray pictures could once again become new and fascinating.
