- Varför börjar man läsa arkeologi? Intresse, fascination elller en strategisk yrkesutbildning? Utbildningspolitiska mål har styrt utformningen av utbildningen under de senaste 40 åren. En diskussion förs i vad mån detta har styrt innehållet i utbildningen. I takt med att arkeologiämnet förändrat sina kunskapsteoretiska perspektiv har också innehåll och kunskapssyn förändrats. Politiska visioner styr utbilding, frågan är i vilken grad dessa styr vad studenterna väljer att studera.

- The Scandinavian death rituals are expressions of agency (war, negotiations, hunting, and personal attraction), and the outcome of the investigation of depositional practices archaeo- logically. Thus, the death rituals cannot be interpreted as self- explanatory afterlife constructions. The wealth depended on political mobilization and a narration of a sense of belonging. As such, the death rituals acted for social identity in diasporic relations and networking, a kind of cultural hybridity as in our modern time (Anthius 2001). The power of the past and the grand narratives to glorify the past, such as Charlemagne as the Roman emperor, speaks for the power of remembrance in the long term and a heroizing of the dead.

- Bird brooches at Uppåkra have a changing biography, as grave gifts, pendants, and scrap metal. The association between bird brooches and birds of prey, and a male face to female jewellery opens questions of identy of the wearer and the male person in question. Following the bird brooches and the connotations of falconry decode both a social identiy and a lifestyle, expressed in the aestetics of the time. Obviously, the bird brooches signal a message within the social elite, between men and women, and in a continantal networking, and contemporary travelling, in eastern and westens direction.
