  • Surface tailoring of cellulose aerogel-like structures with ultrathin coatings using molecular layer-by-layer assembly
  • 2022
  • In: Carbohydrate Polymers. - : Elsevier BV. - 0144-8617 .- 1879-1344. ; 282
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Cellulose nanofibril-based aerogels have promising applicability in various fields; however, developing an effi-cient technique to functionalize and tune their surface properties is challenging. In this study, physically and covalently crosslinked cellulose nanofibril-based aerogel-like structures were prepared and modified by a mo-lecular layer-by-layer (m-LBL) deposition method. Following three m-LBL depositions, an ultrathin polyamide layer was formed throughout the aerogel and its structure and chemical composition was studied in detail. Analysis of model cellulose surfaces showed that the thickness of the deposited layer after three m-LBLs was approximately 1 nm. Although the deposited layer was extremely thin, it led to a 2.6-fold increase in the wet specific modulus, improved the acid-base resistance, and changed the aerogels from hydrophilic to hydrophobic making them suitable materials for oil absorption with the absorption capacity of 16-36 g/g. Thus, demon-strating m-LBL assembly is a powerful technique for tailoring surface properties and functionality of cellulose substrates.

  • 'How can you be friends with that fatty?': The othered body in narratives on weight-based bullying
  • 2024
  • In: Children & society. - : WILEY. - 0951-0605 .- 1099-0860.
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Weight bias in educational settings can lead to bullying and have a severe negative impact on the mental well-being and educational experiences of school children. Indeed, extensive research has shown that children who are labelled overweight are more likely to be victims of school bullying and that weight-based bullying can lead to loss of self-esteem, lower self-confidence, social isolation, higher levels of anxiety and the development of psychosomatic issues. In this article, we utilise Butler's concepts of performativity and othering to analyse three written narrative accounts of weight-based bullying in schools, published in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. In doing so, we adopt a narrative approach to not only investigate how the narrators depict the bullying they were subjected to in their childhood and the effects it had on them, but also how they position themselves in their narratives. Two themes, 'performative othering' and 'a changeable body', are identified in the narratives. These demonstrate how the narrators were co-constructed as different, othered and dehumanised, and how the normative cruelties to which they were subjected as children served to police their corporeality in line with societal ideals. Taken together, our findings point to the importance of listening to the stories of those subjected to bullying and not only addressing bullying in terms of the negative actions taken, but also in relation to broader societal norms.

  • Hur olika orsaker påverkar undersköterskor och sjuksköterskor val att sluta vid vårdavdelningar
  • 2020
  • In: Socialmedicinsk Tidskrift. - 0037-833X .- 2000-4192. ; 97:1, s. 103-116
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract

  • Cold and warm electrons at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
  • 2017
  • In: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP SCIENCES S A. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 605
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Context. Strong electron cooling on the neutral gas in cometary comae has been predicted for a long time, but actual measurements of low electron temperature are scarce. Aims. Our aim is to demonstrate the existence of cold electrons in the inner coma of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and show filamentation of this plasma. Methods. In situ measurements of plasma density, electron temperature and spacecraft potential were carried out by the Rosetta Langmuir probe instrument, LAP. We also performed analytical modelling of the expanding two-temperature electron gas. Results. LAP data acquired within a few hundred km from the nucleus are dominated by a warm component with electron temperature typically 5-10 eV at all heliocentric distances covered (1.25 to 3.83 AU). A cold component, with temperature no higher than about 0.1 eV, appears in the data as short (few to few tens of seconds) pulses of high probe current, indicating local enhancement of plasma density as well as a decrease in electron temperature. These pulses first appeared around 3 AU and were seen for longer periods close to perihelion. The general pattern of pulse appearance follows that of neutral gas and plasma density. We have not identified any periods with only cold electrons present. The electron flux to Rosetta was always dominated by higher energies, driving the spacecraft potential to order -10 V. Conclusions. The warm (5-10 eV) electron population observed throughout the mission is interpreted as electrons retaining the energy they obtained when released in the ionisation process. The sometimes observed cold populations with electron temperatures below 0.1 eV verify collisional cooling in the coma. The cold electrons were only observed together with the warm population. The general appearance of the cold population appears to be consistent with a Haser-like model, implicitly supporting also the coupling of ions to the neutral gas. The expanding cold plasma is unstable, forming filaments that we observe as pulses.

  • Impact of the Flow on an Acoustic Excitation System for Aeroelastic Studies
  • 2013
  • In: Journal of turbomachinery. - : ASME International. - 0889-504X .- 1528-8900. ; 135:3, s. 031033-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The flow in turbomachines is highly unsteady. Effects like vortices, flow separation, and shocks are an inevitable part of the turbomachinery flow. Furthermore, high blade aspect ratios, aerodynamically highly loaded and thin profiles increase the blade sensitivity to vibrations. According to the importance of aeroelasticity in turbomachines, new strategies for experimental studies in rotating machines must be developed. A basic requirement for aeroelastic research in rotating machines is to be able to excite the rotor blades in a defined manner. Approaches for active blade excitation in running machines may be piezoelectric elements, magnetism, or acoustics. Contact-free excitation methods are preferred, since additional mistuning is brought into the investigated system otherwise. A very promising method for aeroelastic research is the noncontact acoustic excitation method. In this paper, investigations on the influence of an annular cascade flow on the blade vibration, excited by an acoustic excitation system, are presented for the first time. These investigations are carried out at the Aeroelastic Test Rig of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. By varying the excitation angle, the outlet Mach number, and the relative position of the excited blade to the excitation system, the influence of the flow on the acoustic excitation is quantified. The results show that there is a strong dependency of the excited vibration amplitude on the excitation angle if the outlet Mach number is increased, which implies that preferable excitation directions exist. Furthermore, it is shown that a benefit up to 23% in terms of excited vibration amplitude can be reached if the flow velocity is raised.

  • Utvärdering av styrning med variabla hastighetsgränser med fokus på framkomlighet : en fallstudie på E4 vid Södertälje
  • 2023
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Dust measurements in the Jovian magnetosphere
  • 1997
  • In: Geophysical Research Letters. - 1944-8007. ; 24:17, s. 2171-2174
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Dust measurements have been obtained with the dust detector onboard the Galileo spacecraft inside a distance of about 60RJ from Jupiter (Jupiter radius, RJ = 71,492 km) during two periods of about 8 days around Galileo's closest approaches to Ganymede on 27 June and on 6 Sept 1996. The impact rate of submicrometer-sized particles fluctuated by a factor of several hundred with a period of about 10 hours, implying that their trajectories are strongly affected by the interaction with the Jovian magnetic field. Concentrations of small dust impacts were detected at the times of Ganymede closest approaches that could be secondary ejecta particles generated upon impact of other particles onto Ganymede's surface. Micrometer-sized dust particles, which could be on bound orbits about Jupiter, are concentrated in the inner Jovian system inside about 20RJ from Jupiter.
