  • Electronic structure and x-ray spectra of defective oxides LixCoO2
  • 2006
  • In: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 74:4, s. 045120-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • X-ray absorption, resonant x-ray emission, and x-ray photoelectron spectra of the valence band and core levels have been measured for LixCoO2 (0.6 <= x <= 1.0). Resonant O K alpha x-ray emission spectra of LiCoO2 showed localized excitonic states due to a dd transition between unoccupied and occupied Co 3d states. On the basis of measurements of Co 3s x-ray photoelectron and Co 2p and O 1s x-ray absorption spectra it was established that in defective cobaltites the electronic holes are localized mainly in O 2p states. Evidence of phase separation in LixCoO2 has been found.

  • Children and adults with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia have similar gene expression profiles
  • 2005
  • In: European Journal of Haematology. - Oxford : Blackwell Publishing. - 0902-4441 .- 1600-0609. ; 74:6, s. 466-480
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • OBJECTIVES: To compare the gene expression pattern in children and adults with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in order to improve our understanding of the difference in disease biology and prognosis.METHODS: The gene expression profiles in diagnostic samples from 29 children and 15 adults with ALL were analysed using the oligonucleotide chip Hu95ver2a, produced by Affymetrix.RESULTS: Unsupervised hierarchical cluster analysis revealed that, in spite of differences in outcome, patients clustered irrespective of age, first by T-cell or B-precursor immunophenotype, and second by cytogenetic changes within the B-precursor group. The expression pattern analysis allowed the reclassification of some samples into the proper cytogenetic group. We also showed that separate clustering of samples with the BCR/ABL translocation could be explained by different breakpoint regions in the BCR. No significant difference in gene expression was observed between samples with and without CDKN2A deletion within the B-precursor group. Analysis of different age groups revealed a similarity in expression profiles when infants with the MLL translocation and adults over 40 yr of age were compared irrespective of karyotype.CONCLUSIONS: In spite of the difference in clinical outcome, the gene expression pattern in children and adults with ALL is very similar and is primarily dependent on immunophenotype and cytogenetic aberrations. However, when age groups are compared, the expression patterns of infants and adults over 40 show a remarkable similarity.

  • Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering at the NiO O K-resonance: non-local charge-transfer and double singlet excitations
  • 2007
  • In: MAX-lab. - Lund : MAX-lab. ; , s. 270-271
  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • NiO is one of the prototypical compounds that has highlighted the importance of correlation effects in transition metal oxides. Core level spectroscopies bear evidence for the highly correlated nature of low energy excitations. For instance, the asymmetry of the Ni2p-line shape has been attributed to non-local charge transfer excitations and multi-site cluster calculations show that solidstate effects generally are appreciable for correlated materials, such as cuprates and high Tc-compounds.....

  • Electronic structure of Cu3N films studied by soft x-ray spectroscopy
  • 2008
  • In: Journal of Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-8984 .- 1361-648X. ; 20:23
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Soft x- ray emission spectroscopy was used to characterize the electronic structure of seven copper nitride films, one synthesized with atomic layer deposition ( ALD) and six grown with chemical vapor deposition ( CVD) at different preparation temperatures. Interpretation of the x- ray emission spectra was supported by calculations of the electronic structure for bulk pure Cu3N and Cu3N with: an excess of Cu atoms, oxygen or carbon impurities, and N vacancies. The calculations are shown to describe the experimental spectra quite well. Analysis of the x- ray spectra suggests that films grown in copper rich environments and above a cut- off temperature of approximately 360 degrees C have a growing fraction of copper enriched areas, while films prepared below this temperature do not have these areas with excess copper.

  • X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy of ZnO nanoparticle and highly oriented ZnO microrod arrays
  • 2006
  • In: Microelectronics Journal. - : Elsevier BV. - 0026-2692. ; 37:8, s. 686-689
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The electronic structures of ZnO nanoparticles and microrod arrays are studied by 0 Is X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and O K alpha X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES). We show that the present LDA +U-SIC calculation approach is suitable to correct the LDA self-interaction error of the cation d-states. The atomic eigenstates of 3d in zinc and 2p in oxygen are energetically close, which induces strong Zn-3d-O-2p hybridization. This anomalous valence band cation-d-anion-p hybridization is affected when the localization of the Zn 3d-states is taken into account. Experimentally, the XES spectra show energy dependence in the spectral shape revealing selected excitations to the Zn 3d, 4s and 4p states, hybridized with 0 2p states. Strong anisotropic effects are observed for the highly oriented ZnO rods, but not for the isotropic spherical nanoparticles. The nanostructured ZnO has primarily bulk XAS and XES properties.
