- The fall of the Soviet Union is analysed in conceptual terms, drawing on Reinhart Koselleck’s Begriffsgeschichte. The author seeks to interpret the instrumental role of the concepts perestrojka, glasnost´, reform, revolution, socialist pluralism, and acceleration in the Soviet collapse. The semantics and pragmatics are related to a wider intellectual and political context, and the conceptual perspective is used to help explain the progress of events. The author argues that the common notion of the reform policy concepts as clichés is not valid.

- Glasnost´och perestrojka är två av de senaste decenniernas viktigaste begrepp. I sin lexikaliska denotation är glasnost´ en ekvivalent till tyskans eller svenskans offentlighetsbegrepp. Men under ytan kommer diametralt motsatta semantiska, etymologiska, fenomenologiska, ontologiska och metafysiska förutsättningar till uttryck. I relation till svenska och västeuropeiska förhållanden fokuseras här det ryska glasnost´-begreppets metamorfoser och återverkningar på det historiska skeendet fram till Sovjetunionens fall. Vilka möjligheter och svårigheter impliceras när man försöker tala om den ryska och sovjetiska erfarenheten i termer av (västerländsk) modernitet? Vad för slags kunskap kan egentligen utvinnas ur en rysk (eller allmänt östeuropeisk) kontext med hjälp av en begreppshistorisk metod, som utarbetats i en företrädesvis västeuropeisk miljö?
