  • Positioning university students as leaders of the learning process within a peer e-learning environment
  • 2009
  • In: Same places, different spaces. - : The University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology, and Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ascilite).. - 9781877314810 ; , s. 434-438
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Capacity and interest in the use of computer conferencing techniques, such as online discussion forums, remains modest among most academics. This paper offers a conception of the online discussion forum as a framework that encourages student centred peer e-learning. In particular, it presents research findings on the experience of university students as leaders of the learning process as a central element of this approach to discussion forums. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with students. The findings provide insight into how students view the approach and indicate it represents a workable means to position students at the centre of an online peer learning experience. Such an approach will be of interest to academics who want to incorporate computer conferencing techniques into their teaching and maintain meaningful peer learning opportunities for their students.

  • Reflections on fusion systems requirements analysis for maintenance planning
  • 2008
  • In: Proceedings of the 2nd Skövde Workshop on Information Fusion planning. - Skövde, Sweden. - 9789163336973 ; , s. 5-8
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Non-defense related industry and public organizations are becoming more and more interested to utilize the power of information fusion applications. The journey from “we have a lot of data from different sources and we would like it to be fused” to well-defined requirements for information fusion applications may however be long and the steps to be taken far from clear. This research in progress paper reflects on the initial steps of a systems requirements analysis in a case study at a maintenance service organization. What questions need to be answered according to existing requirements analysis methods? Where and how can answers be obtained? What problems can arise and how can one handle these? The experiences gathered and discussed can be a basis of the improvement of requirements analysis methods and give a richer understanding of the application of such methods.
