Understanding how distance education or hybrid models can be sustainable at the K-12 level is therefore of relevance to better prepare youth for a future world of work and sustainable development. The purpose of this paper is to present findings from phase two of the qualitative case study to examine more in-depth the ways in which a private school adapted it’s educational programming using technology-supported systems to innovate and maintain attractive quality education. Data were gathered from interviews, focus groups and video footage. The Digital Culture model was used as an analytical framework to examine the data from four dimension: pedagogy, communication, organizational systems, and technology.

(author) Insights from the Pandemic about how to lead and develop sustainable quality in organizations 2021 Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract In this paper, a qualitative case study is presented of how a private school in Florida, USA developed innovative responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, while maintaining and sustaining quality, within the school and in relation to global sustainable development goals. The analysis examines the school’s leadership, and how strategic decision making, shared leadership, teaming and collaboration, and the school’s core values and organizational culture were used to adapt and respond to the crisis. Findings from this case study provide insights to better understand how leaders can develop adaptive systems, built on quality management principles, and to foster sustainable practices that are value-based and customer oriented within the Quality 5.0 era. The paper connects to the track’s focus to illustrate and discuss how quality management practices can be used to support sustainable development on the organizational level through adaptability and innovation.

Based on six lessons from the sciences drawing from systems theory, chaos and complexity and network theory, we illustrate how educational leaders can ignite energy for reimagining and reshaping schools no matter the turbulent times. The sustainability of schooling as a public or private service depends on how well networks are built that become complex adaptive systems of learning for a school’s development. The future of schooling depends on bold leadership that embraces systems-thinking, living on the edge of chaos, and network-thinking to become adaptive no matter the crisis.
