  • Mutual Trust: Joint Performance of an Operations Strategy Implementation—Securing the Value Chain by Preparedness
  • 2018
  • In: Managing Public Trust. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9783319704845 - 9783319704852 ; , s. 175-190
  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This chapter discusses mutual trust in the daily construction of public safety. The chapter is based on the corresponding author’s article-based dissertation, with work connecting joint research articles to his action research. In doing so, this chapter summarizes the implementation of the strategy and how it has been studied. The research is limited to a municipal facilities’ service unit that aims to secure a common value chain for all situations. To do this, joint performance is required. The study is based on action research, with the use of mixed methods. The study utilized the resource-based view theory and empirically employs the balanced critical factor index method for managing the unit.

  • Deterrence or reassurance? : Nordic responses to the First Detente, 1953-1956
  • 2007
  • In: Scandinavian Journal of History. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0346-8755 .- 1502-7716. ; 32:2, s. 183-208
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Historians remember 1953 for the death of Stalin and the ensuing relaxation of East-West tensions, now known as the First Detente. Based on recent Cold War scholarship supplemented by primary documentation, this comparative study looks at the Nordic reaction to the First Wtente 1953-1956 in terms of deterrence and reassurance. The results suggest that, while the Nordic governments uniformly welcomed a more relaxed international atmosphere and entertained hopes of genuine dialogue between East and West, they Often differed in their interpretations of Soviet motives and the genuineness of the post- Stalin foreign policy. The tendency to put added emphasis on reassurance (end hence less deterrence) was most apparent in the cases of Iceland and Finland. Danish and Swedish policy shared this tendency, but lacked the degree of consensus found in Iceland. Norway seems to have been the least amenable to a change in perspective. The course of the First Detente led to an even stronger emphasis on reassurance than had been the case previously. In all of the Nordic countries the invasion of Hungary had a similar alarming effect - it swung the pendulum back toward misgivings about Soviet intentions.

  • Non-response After Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy-the Theoretical Need for Revisional Bariatric Surgery : Results from the Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry
  • 2023
  • In: Obesity Surgery. - : Springer. - 0960-8923 .- 1708-0428. ; 33:10, s. 2973-2980
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Revisional surgery is a second-line treatment option after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and gastric bypass (GBP) in patients with primary or secondary non-response. The aim was to analyze the theoretical need for revisional surgery after SG and GBP when applying four indication benchmarks. METHOD: Based on data from the Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry, SG and GBP were compared regarding four endpoints: 1. excess weight loss (%EWL) < 50%, 2. weight regain of more than 10 kg after nadir, 3. fulfillment of previous IFSO-guidelines, or 4. ADA criteria for bariatric metabolic surgery 2 years after primary surgery.RESULTS: A total of 60,426 individuals were included in the study (SG: n = 7856 and GBP: n = 52,570). Compared to patients in the GBP group, more SG patients failed to achieve a %EWL > 50% (23.0% versus 8.5%, p < .001), regained more than 10 kg after nadir (4.3% versus 2.5%, p < .001), and more often fulfilled the IFSO criteria (8.0% versus 4.5%, p < .001) or the ADA criteria (3.3% versus 1.8%, p < 001) at the 2-year follow-up.CONCLUSION: SG is associated with a higher risk for weight non-response compared to GBP. To offer revisional bariatric surgery to all non-responders exceeds the bounds of feasibility and operability. Hence, individual prioritization and intensified evaluation of alternative second-line treatments are necessary.

  • The semantic content of gestures varies with information status, definiteness and clause structure
  • 2020
  • In: Journal of Pragmatics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0378-2166. ; 168, s. 36-52
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • When speakers mention referents for the first time in discourse, they can also accompany them with gestures. This study explores whether the semantic content expressed by such gestures – whether gestures focus on the entity itself or on an action that the referent is involved in – is related to discourse properties. We consider the potential effects of a referent’s information status (brand-new/inferable), definiteness of the referring expression (indefinite/definite), and the clause structure in which it occurs (more/less specialized for referent introduction). Results suggest that ‘entity’ gestures specifically accompany brand-new referents expressed by indefinite nominals (e.g., indicating the shape of ‘a broom’), and in clause structures specialized for the introduction of referents (e.g., ‘there was a broom’). In contrast, ‘action’ gestures are more likely to occur with inferable referents expressed by definite nominals (e.g., pretending to hold the broom), and in less specialized clause structures focusing on events (e.g., ‘a spoon came flying in). The study highlights the importance of considering variations on the word, clause and discourse levels for understanding the semantic content of gestures.

  • Huvudrapport från projektet om kostnadsanalys för Open access på KTH
  • 2021
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
