  • Built cultural heritage in Antarctica : remains and uses of the first Swedish SouthPolar expedition 1901–1903
  • 2021
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In 1901, Otto Nordenskjöld led the first Swedish South Polar expedition with a multidisciplinary team of researchers in geology, geography, biology and medicine. The original plan was to hibernate in Antarctica and stay for one year to survey the land, measure the climate, and collect samples, but their ship was wrecked and the expedition came to last more than two years. Today, the remains from this expedition are protected as cultural heritage according to the Antarctic Treaty and they have been maintained by Argentinian efforts. Among five protected cultural environments, the wooden research station on Snow Hill Island stands out. Sweden joined the Antarctic Treaty in 1984 but has not actively engaged in the management of cultural heritage there until the CHAQ2020 expedition in 2020. The fieldwork presented in this report was carried out in Antarctica with the purposes of documenting and assessing the condition of the remains and providing a knowledge base for policy and decision-making concerning Swedish cultural heritage in Antarctica.

  • Elfängen : Om Ivar Arosenius sista hem och om ett försök att iscensätta en förfluten värld genom dokumentation, historiska fragment och konstnärlig gestaltning
  • 2023
  • Book (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • The edutainment scan: immersive media and its deployment in museums
  • 2024
  • In: Museum Management and Curatorship. - 0964-7775.
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article addresses the usage of immersive media in museum exhibitions, departing from the conviction that to maintain their credibility, museums need to work systematically with source criticism and evidence in mediation based on experiences and involving empathy, affect and sensory aspects of history. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, the article serves as a literature review of research informing the use of this immersive media in museum exhibitions. To this end, the article seeks to defragment a clustered field, wherein digitality pervades almost all heritage domains to provide a museum-specific overview. Second, and more applicable to a general audience, this article seeks to bridge the gap between research-led theory and museum practice. The review provides insight into recent research results that have been structured through six themes, namely technology readiness, immersivity and affect, intelligibility and agency, authenticity, source critique and scholarly contribution, and finally, pedagogy.

  • DASH Swedish National Doctoral School in Digital Humanities : From Local Expertise to National Research Infrastructure
  • 2024
  • In: Proceedings of the Huminfra Conference (HiC 2024).
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper presents the Swedish National Doctoral School in Digital Humanities: Data, Culture, and Society – Critical Perspectives (DASH) that is run in 2023–2027 by Uppsala University, Umeå University, Linnaeus University, and Gothenburg University. Though Swedish universities have established PhD courses, MA programmes and training in digital humanities previously, DASH is the first encompassing educational programme in digital humanities at the doctoral level. The present paper discusses the rationale behind the DASH doctoral school, its role in the landscape of Swedish humanities infrastructures, and provides insights from the first PhD courses and seminars. The focus of DASH is to equip PhD candidates in humanities and social sciences with knowledge and skills necessary to pursue high quality, innovative and critical research in digital humanities. DASH aims to provide knowledge in relation to digital research, its methods, tools, and critical perspectives, and to build and strengthen the networks among early career scholars. DASH facilitates access and use of the resources in the national infrastructures in the humanities, but also emerges as an element in the infrastructure by providing new resources and competences.
