  • Coherently strained and dislocation-free architectured AlGaN/GaN submicron-sized structures
  • 2021
  • In: Nano Select. - : Wiley. - 2688-4011. ; n/a:n/a, s. 1-14
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • To improve the performance and efficiency of Al containing III-Nitride-based devices, a number of issues must be addressed, especially the presence and generation of dislocations and other structural defects. The main sources of the dislocations are growth on non-native substrates and heteroepitaxial growth of lattice-mismatched layers. We demonstrate the ability to completely avoid structural defects including dislocations in AlxGa1-xN layers with x up to 0.90 and thicknesses over 100 nm, grown directly on submicron-sized, flat-topped GaN platelets. These structures have an excellent homogeneity over an entire array. The GaN platelets were produced by epitaxial growth and reformation of GaN nanowires, effectively blocking the propagation of threading dislocations (TDs) from the underlying substrate. The platelets have a sufficiently small volume to elastically accommodate the strain built up in the architectured AlGaN/GaN heterostructures. Effectively, we have designed a sacrificial nano-scaled GaN seed, with the ability to be strained by the AlGaN layer grown on top of it. The conditions for the growth of the AlGaN are chosen to avoid the creation of misfit dislocations and other structural defects. These thick and structural defect-free, submicron-sized AlGaN/GaN structures may open up a new path for highly efficient electronic and optoelectronic devices. These structures can be used as substrates for light-emitting diodes and transistors, either as individual devices or arrays in parallel, depending on the need for light output or transistor current.

  • Friluftsliv in Swedish Physical Education – a Struggle of Values : Educational and Sociological Perspectives
  • 2010
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to examine some of the educational and sociological conditions underlying the production of teaching in friluftsliv within the Physical Education (PE) subject in Swedish compulsory school. Despite the value awarded to the Scandinavian outdoor practice friluftsliv, in both the national PE curriculum document and in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) in Sweden, it does not seem to be thoroughly implemented in compulsory school teaching. Through analyses of interviews with PE teachers and PE teacher educators, as well as of curriculum documents, using the perspectives of Basil Bernstein and Pierre Bourdieu, I explore conditions underlying the expressions of friluftsliv teaching in Swedish PE. The pedagogic discourse for friluftsliv in Swedish PE is described as a teaching that should take place in a natural setting remote from civilisation, involve risks, and require time, technical equipment, financial resources, and cooperation. This discourse for friluftsliv is shown to be similar to the values emphasised in friluftsliv education in PETE. Although proven to be difficult to implement in school, this discourse appear to form the conception of friluftsliv teaching for PE teachers in Sweden. Under the influence of the performance code, friluftsliv is transformed into outdoor activities with which the PE teachers are familiar, or is totally left out of PE teaching. A turn towards options that are seen as unthinkable in relation to the current pedagogic discourse may benefit the achievement of the aims set out in the national PE curriculum. Values such as environmental awareness, sustainable development and cultural perspectives on the landscape could strengthen the classification of friluftsliv and PE in compulsory school. Further, an increase of socially critical and constructivist perspectives during PETE could make unthinkable options in friluftsliv thinkable and contribute to a break with the reproduction of teaching practices in PE.

  • ”Olikhet blir lärandets drivkraft” – en berättelse om hundraspråklighet som en metafor för demokrati och inkludering
  • 2023
  • In: Lyssnandets pedagogik i samtiden och för framtiden. - Malmö : Gleerups.
  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract

  • X-ray microcomputed tomography (µCT) as a potential tool in Geometallurgy
  • 2019
  • Licentiate thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • In recent years, automated mineralogy has become an essential tool in geometallurgy. Automated mineralogical tools allow the acquisition of mineralogical and liberation data of ore particles in a sample. These particle data can then be used further for particle-based mineral processing simulation in the context of geometallurgy. However, most automated mineralogical tools currently in application are based on two-dimensional (2D) microscopy analysis, which are subject to stereological error when analyzing three-dimensional(3D) object such as ore particles. Recent advancements in X-ray microcomputed tomography (µCT) have indicated great potential of such system to be the next automated mineralogical tool. µCT's main advantage lies on its ability in monitoring 3D internal structure of the ore at resolutions down to few microns, eliminating stereological error obtained from 2D analysis. Aided with the continuous developments of computing capability of 3D data, it is only the question of time that µCT system becomes an interesting alternative in automated mineralogy system. This study aims to evaluate the potential of implementing µCT as an automated mineralogical tool in the context of geometallurgy. First, a brief introduction about the role of automated mineralogy in geometallurgy is presented. Then, the development of µCT system to become an automated mineralogical tool in the context of geometallurgy andprocess mineralogy is discussed (Paper 1). The discussion also reviews the available data analysis methods in extracting ore properties (size, mineralogy, texture) from the 3D µCT image (Paper 2). Based on the review, it was found that the main challenge inperforming µCT analysis of ore samples is the difficulties associated to the segmentation of the mineral phases in the dataset. This challenge is adressed through the implementation of machine learning techniques using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) data as a reference to differentiate the mineral phases in the µCT dataset (Paper 3).
