  • Inlärning och långtidsminne av olika approximationer till språkets statistiska natur
  • 1968
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This report gives some information about the possibilities and problems, which have been observed during an excursion to Sweden, jointly organised by the Department of Comparative Education, University of Marburg and the Department of Education at the University of Hamburg. Two different forms can be discerned. One concerns the provision of school psychology in Gothenburg and the other relates to parts of student care within the comprehensive school system of Uppsala. Some information about the providers (institutes) is reproduced.

  • Book chapter (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Compared to all other countries, the self-governing organisation of the Swedish Student Union has a unique position concerning its influence on Administration, Government and Parliament. Through the Teacher Union’s strike of 1966, its activities have become known in Germany. In particular, the students’ ability of organising lessons over an extended period of time has contributed to their popularity among some educators in Germany. Furthermore, all committee work of some import is passed to the Student Union for consideration and comments. Hence, Swedish student seem to be involved in all central question of import for external and internal work organisation. Many of their opinions have been integrated into Parliament decisions. Finally, Swedish students participate in teacher conferences on a regular basis and thereby contribute to educational decision making as well as to the reformulation of the curriculum. In principle, they are working for the continuing reformation of the Swedish School system.

  • Theorie und Praxis in der Oberstufe der schwedischen Grundschule
  • 1968
  • Book (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The report presents a descriptive study of the educational system in Sweden with special emphasis on the upper level of the comprehensive school. An attempt is made to survey the goals and the realisation of the goals in the practical school situation. Thereby, the focus has been directed upon the attempts being made to adapt the school to the demands of a quickly developing modern society.

  • The roles of policy differences and inconsistency in policy conflict
  • 1969
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Brehmer,B. The roles of policy differences and inconsistency in policy conflict. Umeå Psychological Reports, No. 18, 1970. - Disagreement caused by policy differences is shown to be a function of two factors: the systematic differences between the policies and the consistency of these policies. The relative importance of the two factors is studied in an illustrative experiment involving decision making under conditions of uncertainty. The results of the experiment indicate that in the beginning of the conflict period, most disagreement is caused by systematic diffe- .rences in policy. These differences are, however, rapidly reduced. At the same time, the consistency of the policies decreases so that at the end of the conflict period, most of the disagreement is caused by lack of consistency in the policies.Due to this lack of consistency, the actual differences between the decisions made by the subjects are not very much reduced, despite the fact that the systematic differences between their policies have all but disappeared.

  • The differential effect of stimulus intensity on rehearsed and unrehearsed material in short-term auditory memory
  • 1967
  • In: Canadian journal of psychology. - : American Psychological Association (APA). - 0008-4255. ; 21:4, s. 277-277
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • THE EFFECT OF VARYING THE STIMULUS INTENSITY (LOUDNESS) ON THE RECALL OF 9-DIGIT SEQUENCES WAS STUDIED USING 2 PRESENTATION RATES. AT 1 DIGIT/SEC AND WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR 3, 3, AND 3 REHEARSAL GROUPING, STIMULUS INTENSITY WAS FOUND TO BE A VARIABLE ONLY IN THE CASE OF THE LAST 3 DIGITS, WHICH ACCORDING TO REHEARSAL INSTRUCTIONS WERE UNREHEARSED. NO EFFECT WAS FOUND ON THE 1ST 6 REHEARSED DIGITS. AT 4 DIGITS/SEC, A RATE TOO FAST FOR SYSTEMATIC REHEARSAL, THE STIMULUS INTENSITY AFFECTED THE RECALL OF THE 1ST 6 AND THE LAST 3 DIGITS. THE RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO THE QUESTION OF WHETHER OR NOT THE STIMULUS AND REHEARSAL MEMORY TRACES SHOULD BE REGARDED SEPARATELY. THE QUESTION OF PRESENTATION RATE AND PERFORMANCE IS ALSO DISCUSSED.

  • Some comments in connection with Rozeboom's linear correlation theory
  • 1966
  • In: Psychometrika. - 0033-3123 .- 1860-0980. ; 31:2, s. 267-267
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • It is shown that certain correlation measures suggested by information theory are simple functions of the determinants of the correlation matrices involved, if multivariate normality is assumed. This illuminates and in a sense strengthens Rozeboom's point in [3], that information theoretical statistics have "classical" correlational counterparts.

  • Intra-modal and cross-modal accuracy in a form discrimination task
  • 1969
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Garvill,J., and Malandar, B. Intra-modal and cross-mcxåal accuracy in a farm discrimination task* thieå Psychological Reports, No, 11, 1969. - Intra-modal and cross-modal d iscrimnation was compared under two kinds of presentation either simultaneous ar successive. The modalities were vision and touch and the stimili three-dixrensicoal "nonsense" objects. The intta-modal conditions were expected to result in higher accuracy than the croBSHBßdal ocndit&ans. The asymmetric transfer effect (i.e. touch before vision better than vision before touch) usually found in experiments on cross-modal transfer, but not in experiments cai cross-modal matching, was expected to occur under the condition of successive presentation at least. Hie method was paired comparisons and the results showed higher aoeuraoy fee the intra-modal conditions as ccrapared to the cross-modal conditions. The expected asymmetric effect was not found. Differences between experiments cai cross-mcdal transfer and experiments en cross-modal matching are discussed.

  • Some Characteristics Of The G Index Of Agreement
  • 1968
  • In: Multivariate Behavioral Research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0027-3171 .- 1532-7906. ; 3:1, s. 107-114
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Several uses of the G index of agreement are discussed for both Q- and R-techniques. It is shown that the index is meaningful and is not sensitive either to changes in having direction (for profile analysis) or to marginal inequalities for dichotomous data.
