  • Large area photo detector
  • 2011
  • Other publication (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The invention discloses a photo detector with first and second groups of electrodes. The electrodes of each group are connected to a first common conductor for the group, and are located on a layer of photosensitive material. The electrodes are parallel to and interlaced with each other. The first common conductors are essentially plane, arranged at the same end of their group of electrodes, and arranged as upper and lower conductors parallel to and overlapping each other separated by a dielectric material, and form a signal electrode and a ground plane of a first microstrip line. The first microstrip line acts as a first combiner for currents induced in the electrodes of the two groups and as a matching network for the electrodes and for a load which can be connected to the photo detector

  • Capacitance arrangement and method relating thereto
  • 2011
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • A capacitance arrangement comprising at least one parallel-plate capacitor comprising a first electrode means, a dielectric layer and a second electrode means partly overlapping each other. A misalignment limit is given. Said first electrode means comprises a first and a second electrode arranged symmetrically with respect to a longitudinal axis, said first and second electrodes have a respective first edge, which face each other, are linear and parallel such that a gap is defined there between. Said second electrode means comprises a third electrode with a first section and a second section disposed on opposite sides of said gap interconnected by means of an intermediate section, which is delimited by a function depending on a first parameter and a second parameter. One of said two parameters is adapted to be selected hence allowing calculation of the other parameter to determine the shape and size of the second electrode means

  • Method to increase the tuneability of varactor
  • 2011
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The present invention relates to a tunable circuit, or admittance, arrangement comprising at least one capacitive branch with at least a tunable first capacitor, and tuning application means. It further comprises at least one resonant branch comprising at least a second capacitor and an inductor, said second capacitor and said inductor being connected in series. Said at least one capacitive branch and said at least one resonant branch are connected in parallel, and said tuning application means are adapted for application of a DC tuning voltage. The capacitance of said first and/or second capacitor and/or the inductance of said inductor are selected such that the frequency dependency of the tunability of a varactor arrangement forming the equivalent varactor arrangement of the admittance arrangement can be controlled at least in a selected frequency range

  • Tunable microwave arrangements
  • 2014
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The present invention relates to a tunable microwave arrangement (100) comprising a waveguide arrangement and tuning elements comprising a number of varactors for tuning an electromagnetic signal input to the waveguide arrangement. It comprises a substrate (1), a layered structure (20) comprising at least two conducting layers (2,3) and at least one dielectric layer (4) which are arranged in an alternating manner. The layered structure is arranged on the substrate (1) such that a first of said conducting layers (2) is closest to the substrate (1). It also comprises at least one surface mounted waveguide (5), a second of the conducting layers (3), most distant from the substrate, being adapted to form a wall of the surface mounted waveguide (5), which wall incorporates said tuning elements which are arranged to enable control of surface currents generated in said wall, hence loading the waveguide (5) with a tunable, controllable impedance.

  • Ferroelectric lens
  • 2010
  • Patent (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • A lens (300, 500) is disclosed for steering the exit direction (Ω) of an incident electromagnetic wave. The lens comprises a main body (210, 510) of a ferroelectric material with a first main surface (207, 507) and a first transformer (220, 222). The electromagnetic wave enters and exits the lens through the transformer, and the lens comprises means (370, 380) for creating a DC-field in a first direction in the main body. The main body (210, 510) of ferroelectric material comprises a plurality (21011-210NN, 51011-510NN) of slabs of the ferroelectric material, each slab also comprising a first (403, 603) and a second electrode of a conducting material. The means for creating a DC-field can create a gradient DC-field in the first direction using the first and second electrodes, so that the dielectric constant in the main body will also be a gradient in the first direction, thus enabling steering of the existing electromagnetic wave
