  • Evidence for a Particle Produced in Association with Weak Bosons and Decaying to a Bottom-Antibottom Quark Pair in Higgs Boson Searches at the Tevatron
  • 2012
  • In: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 109:7, s. 071804-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for the associated production of a Higgs boson with a W or Z boson and subsequent decay of the Higgs boson to a bottom-antibottom quark pair. The data, originating from Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 9.7 fb(-1). The searches are conducted for a Higgs boson with mass in the range 100-150 GeV/c(2). We observe an excess of events in the data compared with the background predictions, which is most significant in the mass range between 120 and 135 GeV/c(2). The largest local significance is 3.3 standard deviations, corresponding to a global significance of 3.1 standard deviations. We interpret this as evidence for the presence of a new particle consistent with the standard model Higgs boson, which is produced in association with a weak vector boson and decays to a bottom-antibottom quark pair.

    • We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for the standard model Higgs boson with mass in the range 90-200 GeV/c(2) produced in the gluon-gluon fusion, WH, ZH, t (t) over barH, and vector boson fusion processes, and decaying in the H -> b (b) over bar, H -> W+W-, H -> ZZ, H -> tau(+)tau(-), and H -> gamma gamma modes. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 10 fb(-1) and were collected at the Fermilab Tevatron in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. The searches are also interpreted in the context of fermiophobic and fourth generation models. We observe a significant excess of events in the mass range between 115 and 140 GeV/c(2). The local significance corresponds to 3.0 standard deviations at m(H) = 125 GeV/c(2), consistent with the mass of the Higgs boson observed at the LHC, and we expect a local significance of 1.9 standard deviations. We separately combine searches for H -> b (b) over bar, H -> W+W-, H -> tau(+)tau(-), and H -> gamma gamma. The observed signal strengths in all channels are consistent with the presence of a standard model Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV/c(2).

  • In: Physical Review D. - 1550-7998 .- 1550-2368. ; 88:5, s. 052018-

    • We summarize and combine direct measurements of the mass of the W boson in root s = 1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collision data collected by CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Earlier measurements from CDF and D0 are combined with the two latest, more precise measurements: a CDF measurement in the electron and muon channels using data corresponding to 2.2 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, and a D0 measurement in the electron channel using data corresponding to 4.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The resulting Tevatron average for the mass of the W boson is M-W = 80387 +/- 16 MeV. Including measurements obtained in electron-positron collisions at LEP yields the most precise value of M-W = 80385 +/- 15 MeV.

  • Combination of measurements of the top-quark pair production cross section from the Tevatron Collider
  • 2014
  • In: Physical Review D. - 1550-7998 .- 1550-2368. ; 89:7
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We combine six measurements of the inclusive top-quark pair (t(sic)) production cross section (sigma(t)(sic)) from data collected with the CDF and D0 detectors at the Fermilab Tevatron with proton-antiproton collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 8.8 fb(-1). We obtain a value of sigma tt = 7.60 +/- 0.41 pb for a top-quark mass of m(t) = 172.5 GeV. The contributions to the uncertainty are 0.20 pb from statistical sources, 0.29 pb from systematic sources, and 0.21 pb from the uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The result is in good agreement with the standard model expectation of 7.35(-0.33)(+0.28) pb at next-to-next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to leading logarithms in perturbative QCD.

  • Observation of s-Channel Production of Single Top Quarks at the Tevatron
  • 2014
  • In: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 112:23
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We report the first observation of single-top-quark production in the s channel through the combination of the CDF and D0 measurements of the cross section in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The data correspond to total integrated luminosities of up to 9.7 fb(-1) per experiment. The measured cross section is sigma(s) = 1.29(-0.24)(+0.26) pb. The probability of observing a statistical fluctuation of the background to a cross section of the observed size or larger is 1.8 x 10(-10), corresponding to a significance of 6.3 standard deviations for the presence of an s-channel contribution to the production of single-top quarks.

  • Overview of the JET results with the ITER-like wall
  • 2013
  • In: Nuclear Fusion. - : IOP Publishing. - 1741-4326 .- 0029-5515. ; 53:10, s. 104002-

    • Following the completion in May 2011 of the shutdown for the installation of the beryllium wall and the tungsten divertor, the first set of JET campaigns have addressed the investigation of the retention properties and the development of operational scenarios with the new plasma-facing materials. The large reduction in the carbon content (more than a factor ten) led to a much lower Z(eff) (1.2-1.4) during L- and H-mode plasmas, and radiation during the burn-through phase of the plasma initiation with the consequence that breakdown failures are almost absent. Gas balance experiments have shown that the fuel retention rate with the new wall is substantially reduced with respect to the C wall. The re-establishment of the baseline H-mode and hybrid scenarios compatible with the new wall has required an optimization of the control of metallic impurity sources and heat loads. Stable type-I ELMy H-mode regimes with H-98,H-y2 close to 1 and beta(N) similar to 1.6 have been achieved using gas injection. ELM frequency is a key factor for the control of the metallic impurity accumulation. Pedestal temperatures tend to be lower with the new wall, leading to reduced confinement, but nitrogen seeding restores high pedestal temperatures and confinement. Compared with the carbon wall, major disruptions with the new wall show a lower radiated power and a slower current quench. The higher heat loads on Be wall plasma-facing components due to lower radiation made the routine use of massive gas injection for disruption mitigation essential.

  • Overview of the JET results
  • 2011
  • In: Nuclear Fusion. - : IOP Publishing. - 1741-4326 .- 0029-5515. ; 51:9
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Since the last IAEA Conference JET has been in operation for one year with a programmatic focus on the qualification of ITER operating scenarios, the consolidation of ITER design choices and preparation for plasma operation with the ITER-like wall presently being installed in JET. Good progress has been achieved, including stationary ELMy H-mode operation at 4.5 MA. The high confinement hybrid scenario has been extended to high triangularity, lower ρ*and to pulse lengths comparable to the resistive time. The steady-state scenario has also been extended to lower ρ*and ν*and optimized to simultaneously achieve, under stationary conditions, ITER-like values of all other relevant normalized parameters. A dedicated helium campaign has allowed key aspects of plasma control and H-mode operation for the ITER non-activated phase to be evaluated. Effective sawtooth control by fast ions has been demonstrated with3He minority ICRH, a scenario with negligible minority current drive. Edge localized mode (ELM) control studies using external n = 1 and n = 2 perturbation fields have found a resonance effect in ELM frequency for specific q95values. Complete ELM suppression has, however, not been observed, even with an edge Chirikov parameter larger than 1. Pellet ELM pacing has been demonstrated and the minimum pellet size needed to trigger an ELM has been estimated. For both natural and mitigated ELMs a broadening of the divertor ELM-wetted area with increasing ELM size has been found. In disruption studies with massive gas injection up to 50% of the thermal energy could be radiated before, and 20% during, the thermal quench. Halo currents could be reduced by 60% and, using argon/deuterium and neon/deuterium gas mixtures, runaway electron generation could be avoided. Most objectives of the ITER-like ICRH antenna have been demonstrated; matching with closely packed straps, ELM resilience, scattering matrix arc detection and operation at high power density (6.2 MW m-2) and antenna strap voltages (42 kV). Coupling measurements are in very good agreement with TOPICA modelling. © 2011 IAEA, Vienna.

    • We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in 9.5 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The final state considered contains a pair of b jets and is characterized by an imbalance in transverse energy, as expected from p (p) over bar -> ZH -> nu(nu) over barb (b) over bar production. The search is also sensitive to the WH -> l nu b (b) over bar channel when the charged lepton is not identified. The data are found to be in good agreement with the expected background. For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, we set a limit at the 95% C.L. on the cross section sigma(p (p) over bar -> vertical bar Z/W vertical bar H), assuming standard model branching fractions, that is a factor of 4.3 times larger than the theoretical standard model value, while the expected factor is 3.9. The search is also used to measure a combined WZ and ZZ production cross section that is a factor of 0.94 +/- 0.31 (stat) +/- 0.34 (syst) times the standard model prediction of 4.4 pb, with an observed significance of 2.0 standard deviations. • We present the results of the combination of searches for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W or Z boson and decaying into b (b) over bar using the data sample collected with the D0 detector in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We derive 95% C.L. upper limits on the Higgs boson cross section relative to the standard model prediction in the mass range 100 GeV <= M-H <= 150 GeV, and we exclude Higgs bosons with masses smaller than 102 GeV at the 95% C.L. In the mass range 120 GeV <= M-H <= 145 GeV, the data exhibit an excess above the background prediction with a global significance of 1.5 standard deviations, consistent with the expectation in the presence of a standard model Higgs boson.

    • We give a detailed description of the measurement of the W boson mass, M-W, performed on an integrated luminosity of 4.3 fb(-1), which is based on similar techniques as used for our previous measurement done on an independent data set of 1 fb(-1) of data. The data were collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. This data set yields 1.68 x 10(6) W -> ev candidate events. We measure the mass using the transverse mass, electron transverse momentum, and missing transverse energy distributions. The M-W measurements using the transverse mass and the electron transverse momentum distributions are the most precise of these three and are combined to give M-W 80.367 +/- 0.013 (stat) +/- 0.022(syst) GeV = 80: 367 +/- 0.026 GeV. When combined with our earlier measurement on 1 fb(-1) of data, we obtain M-W = 80.375 +/- 0.023 GeV.

    • We perform a combination of searches for standard model Higgs boson production in p (p) over bar collisions recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at a center of mass energy of root s = 1.96 TeV. The different production and decay channels have been analyzed separately, with integrated luminosities of up to 9.7 fb(-1) and for Higgs boson masses 90 <= M-H <= 200 GeV. We combine these final states to achieve optimal sensitivity to the production of the Higgs boson. We also interpret the combination in terms of models with a fourth generation of fermions, and models with suppressed Higgs boson couplings to fermions. The result excludes a standard model Higgs boson at 95% C.L. in the ranges 90 < M-H < 101 GeV and 157 < M-H < 178 GeV, with an expected exclusion of 155 < M-H < 175 GeV. In the range 120 < M-H < 145 GeV, the data exhibit an excess over the expected background of up to 2 standard deviations, consistent with the presence of a standard model Higgs boson of mass 125 GeV.

  • Constraints on Models for the Higgs Boson with Exotic Spin and Parity in VH -> Vb(b)over-bar Final States

  • In: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 113:16, s. 161802-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We present constraints on models containing non-standard-model values for the spin J and parity P of the Higgs boson H in up to 9.7 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These are the first studies of Higgs boson J(P) with fermions in the final state. In the ZH -> llb (b) over bar, WH -> l nu b (b) over barb, and ZH -> nu nu b (b) over bar final states, we compare the standard model (SM) Higgs boson prediction, J(P) = 0(+), with two alternative hypotheses, J(P) = 0(-) and J(P) = 2(+). We use a likelihood ratio to quantify the degree to which our data are incompatible with non-SM J(P) predictions for a range of possible production rates. Assuming that the production rate in the signal models considered is equal to the SM prediction, we reject the J(P) = 0(-) and J(P) = 2(+) hypotheses at the 97.6% CL and at the 99.0% CL, respectively. The expected exclusion sensitivity for a J(P) = 0(-)(J(P) = 2(+)) state is at the 99.86% (99.94%) CL. Under the hypothesis that our data are the result of a combination of the SM-like Higgs boson and either a J(P) = 0(-) or a J(P) = 2(+) signal, we exclude a J(P) = 0(-) fraction above 0.80 and a JP = 2(+) fraction above 0.67 at the 95% CL. The expected exclusion covers J(P) = 0(-)(J(P) = 2(+)) fractions above 0.54 (0.47).

    • The calibration of jet energy measured in the DO detector is presented, based on p (p) over bar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, jet energies are measured using a sampling calorimeter composed of uranium and liquid argon as the passive and active media, respectively. This paper describes the energy calibration of jets performed with gamma+jet, Z+jet and dilet events, with jet transverse momentum p(T) > 6 GeV and pseudorapidity range vertical bar eta vertical bar < 3.6, The corrections are measured separately for data and simulation, achieving a precision of 1.4-1.8% for jets in the central part of the calorimeter ancl up to 3.5% for the jets with pseudorapidity vertical bar eta vertical bar = 3.0. Specific corrections are extracted to enhance the description of jet energy in simulation and in particular of the effects due to the flavor of the parton originating the jet, correcting biases up to 3-4% in jets with low PT originating from gluons and up to 6-8% in jets from b quarks. • We present searches for the anomalous γWW and ZWW trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW and WZ production using lepton plus dijet final states and a combination with results from Wγ, WW, and WZ production with leptonic final states. The analyzed data correspond to up to 8.6fb -1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector in pp- collisions at s=1.96TeV. We set the most stringent limits at a hadron collider to date assuming two different relations between the anomalous coupling parameters δκ γ, λ, and δg1Z for a cutoff energy scale Λ=2TeV. The combined 68% C.L. limits are -0.057<δκ γ<0.154, -0.015<λ<0.028, and -0.008<δg1Z<0.054 for the LEP parameterization, and -0.007<δκ<0.081 and -0.017<λ<0.028 for the equal couplings parameterization. We also present the most stringent limits of the W boson magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments.

    • We present a measurement of the average value of a new observable at hadron colliders that is sensitive to QCD dynamics and to the strong coupling constant, while being only weakly sensitive to parton distribution functions. The observable measures the angular correlations of jets and is defined as the number of neighboring jets above a given transverse momentum threshold which accompany a given jet within a given distance δR in the plane of rapidity and azimuthal angle. The ensemble average over all jets in an inclusive jet sample is measured and the results are presented as a function of transverse momentum of the inclusive jets, in different regions of δR and for different transverse momentum requirements for the neighboring jets. The measurement is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb -1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in pp- collisions at s=1.96 TeV. The results are well described by a perturbative QCD calculation in next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, corrected for non-perturbative effects. From these results, we extract the strong coupling and test the QCD predictions for its running over a range of momentum transfers of 50-400 GeV.

Jets have transverse momentum p(T)(jet) > 20 GeV and pseudorapidity vertical bar eta(jet)vertical bar < 2.5. These cross section ratios are measured differentially as a function of jet and Z boson transverse momenta, based on 9.7 fb(-1) of p<(p)over bar> collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. The measurements show significant deviations from perturbative QCD calculations and predictions from various event generators.

    • We present a measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in B-+/- mesons decaying to J/psi K-+/- and J/psi pi(+/-) where J/psi decays to mu(+)mu(-), using the full run II data set of 10.4 fb(-1) of proton-antiproton collisions collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A difference in the yield of B- and B+ mesons in these decays is found by fitting to the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions resulting in asymmetries of A(J/psi K) = [0.59 +/- 0.37]%, which is the most precise measurement to date, and A(J/psi pi) = [-4.2 +/- 4.5]%. Both measurements are consistent with standard model predictions.

    • We present measurements of lepton (l) angular distributions in top-quark (t) pair production and t (t) over bar -> W(+)bW-(b) over bar -> l(+) vbl-(v) over bar(b) over bar decays produced in p (p) over bar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 1.96 TeV, where l is an electron or muon. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb(-1), collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we measure for the first time the leptonic forward-backward asymmetry in dilepton final states and obtain A(FB)(l) = (5.8 +/- 5.1(stat) +/- 1.3(syst))%, corrected for detector acceptance. This is compared to the standard model prediction of A(FB)(l)(predicted) = (4.7 +/- 0.1)%. A deviation from the standard model prediction as previously seen in a D0 measurement based on the analysis of the l + jets final state is not observed in these dilepton final states. The two results differ from each other by 1.4 standard deviations and are combined to obtain A(FB)(l) = (11.8 +/- 3.2)%. Furthermore, we present a first study of the top-quark polarization.

    • We present measurements of asymmetries in angular distributions of leptons produced in t (t) over bar events in proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider final states where the W-+/- bosons from top quark and antiquark decays both decay into l nu (l = e, mu) resulting in oppositely charged dilepton final states with accompanying jets. Using 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector, we find the asymmetries in lepton pseudorapidity compatible with predictions based on the standard model.

    • We study the process of associated photon and jet production, p (p) over bar -> gamma + jet + X, using 8.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at a center-of-mass energy root s = 1.96 TeV. Photons are reconstructed with rapidity vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar < 1.0 or 1.5 < vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar < 2.5 and transverse momentum p(T)(gamma) > 20 GeV. The highest-p(T) jet is required to be in one of four rapidity regions up to vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar <= 3.2. For each rapidity configuration we measure the differential cross sections in p(T)(gamma) separately for events with the same sign (y(gamma)y(jet) > 0) and opposite signs (y(gamma)y(jet) <= 0) of photon and jet rapidities. We compare the measured triple-differential cross sections, d(3)sigma/dp(T)(gamma)dy(gamma)dy(jet), to next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations using different sets of parton distribution functions, and to predictions from the SHERPA and PYTHIA Monte Carlo event generators. The NLO calculations are found to be in general agreement with the data but do not describe all kinematic regions.

    • We present the first measurements of the differential cross section d sigma/dp(T)(gamma) for the production of an isolated photon in association with at least two b-quark jets. The measurements consider photons with rapidities vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar < 1.0 and transverse momenta 30 < p(T)(gamma) < 200 GeV. The b-quark jets are required to have p(T)(jet) > 15 GeVand vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 1.5. The ratio of differential production cross sections for gamma + 2 b-jets to gamma + b-jet as a function of p(T)(gamma) is also presented. The results are based on the proton-antiproton collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measured cross sections and their ratios are compared to the next- to- leading order perturbative QCD calculations as well as predictions based on the k(T)- factorization approach and those from the sherpa and pythia Monte Carlo event generators.

The normalized difference A(CP) in the yield of D-s(+) and D-s(-) mesons in these decays is measured by fitting the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions. This results in an asymmetry of A(CP) = [-0.38 +/- 0.27]%, which is the most precise measurement of this quantity to date. The result is consistent with the standard model prediction of zero CP asymmetry in this decay.

    • We measure the direct CP-violating parameter A(CP) for the decay of the charged charm meson, D+ -> K-pi(+)pi(+)(and charge conjugate), using the full 10.4 fb(-1) sample of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We extract the raw reconstructed charge asymmetry by fitting the invariant mass distributions for the sum and difference of charge-specific samples. This quantity is then corrected for detector-related asymmetries using data-driven methods and for possible physics asymmetries (from B. D processes) using input from Monte Carlo simulation. We measure A(CP) =[-0.16 +/- 0.15(stat) +/- 0.09(syst)] %, which is consistent with zero, as expected from the standard model prediction of CP conservation, and is the most precise measurement of this quantity to date.

    • We present measurements of the forward-backward asymmetry in the angular distribution of leptons from decays of top quarks and antiquarks produced in proton-antiproton collisions. We consider the final state containing a lepton and at least three jets. The entire sample of data collected by the D0 experiment during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, is used. The asymmetry measured for reconstructed leptons is A(FB)(l) = (2.9 +/- 2.1(stat.)(-1.7)(+1.5) (syst.))%. When corrected for efficiency and resolution effects within the lepton rapidity coverage of vertical bar y(l)vertical bar < 1.5, the asymmetry is found to be A(FB)(l) = (4.2 +/- 2.3(stat.)(-2.0)(+1.7) (syst.))%. We examine the dependence of A(FB)(l) on the transverse momentum and rapidity of the lepton. Combination with the asymmetry measured in the final states containing two leptons yields A(FB)(l) = (4.2 +/- 2.0(stat.) +/- 1.4(syst.))%. The results are in agreement with predictions from the next-to-leading-order QCD generator MC@NLO, which predicts an asymmetry of A(FB)(l) = 2.0% for vertical bar y(l)vertical bar < 1.5.

    • We present a measurement of the muon charge asymmetry from the decay of the W boson via W -> mu nu using 7: 3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. The measured asymmetries are compared with theory predictions made using three parton distribution function sets. • We present a measurement of the ratio of multijet cross sections in p (p) over barp collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measurement is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb(-1) collected with the DO detector. The ratio of the inclusive three-jet to two-jet cross sections, R-3/2, has been measured as a function of the jet transverse momenta. The data are compared to QCD predictions in different approximations. Popular tunes of the PYriiiA event generator do not agree with the data, while SHERPA provides a reasonable description of the data. A perturbative QCD prediction in next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, corrected for non-perturbative effects, gives a good description of the data.

    • We present a measurement of the semileptonic mixing asymmetry for B-0 mesons, a(sl)(d), using two independent decay channels: B-0 -> mu+D-X, with D- ->! K+ pi(-) pi(-); and B-0 -> mu+D*X-, with D*(-) -> (D) over bar (0) pi(-), (D) over bar (-)(0) K+ pi(-) (and charge conjugate processes). We use a data sample corresponding to 10.4 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We extract the charge asymmetries in these two channels as a function of the visible proper decay length of the B-0 meson, correct for detector-related asymmetries using data-driven methods, and account for dilution from charge-symmetric processes using Monte Carlo simulation. The final measurement combines four signal visible proper decay length regions for each channel, yielding a(sl)(d) = [0.68 +/- 0: 45(stat) +/- 0.14(syst)]%. This is the single most precise measurement of this parameter, with uncertainties smaller than the current world average of B factory measurements.

Our result is a combination of two searches where either one or both CMLLPs are reconstructed in the detector. We select events with muonlike particles that have both speed and ionization energy loss (dE/dx) different from muons produced in p (p) over bar collisions. In the absence of evidence for CMLLPs corresponding to 6.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, we set limits on the CMLLP masses in several supersymmetric models, excluding masses below 278 GeV for long-lived gaugino-like charginos, and masses below 244 GeV for long-lived Higgsino-like charginos at the 95% C.L. We also set limits on the cross section for pair production of long-lived scalar tau leptons that range from 0.04 to 0.008 pb for scalar tau lepton masses of 100-300 GeV.

    • We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson using events with two oppositely charged leptons and large missing transverse energy as expected in H -> WW decays. The events are selected from data corresponding to 8.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. No significant excess above the standard model background expectation in the Higgs boson mass range this search is sensitive to is observed, and upper limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived.

    • We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in final states with a charged lepton (electron or muon), missing transverse energy, and two or three jets, at least one of which is identified as a b-quark jet. The search is primarily sensitive to WH -> lvb (b) over bar production and uses data corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. We observe agreement between the data and the expected background. For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, we set a 95% C.L. upper limit on the production of a standard model Higgs boson of 5.2 x sigma(SM), where sigma(SM) is the standard model Higgs boson production cross section, while the expected limit is 4: 7 x sigma(SM).

    • We present a search for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in 9.7 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at root s = 1.96 TeV. Selected events contain one reconstructed Z -> e(+) e(-) or Z -> mu(+) mu(-)candidate and at least two jets, including at least one jet identified as likely to contain a b quark. To validate the search procedure, we also measure the cross section for ZZ production in the same final state. It is found to be consistent with its SM prediction. We set upper limits on the ZH production cross section times branching ratio for H -> b (b) over bar at the 95% C.L. for Higgs boson masses 90 <= M-H <= 150 GeV. The observed (expected) limit for M-H = 125 GeV is 7.1 (5.1) times the SM cross section.

    • We investigate the decay B+ -> J/psi phi K+ in a search for the X(4140) state, a narrow threshold resonance in the J/psi phi system. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We observe a mass peak with a statistical significance of 3.1 standard deviations and measure its invariant mass to be M = 4159.0 +/- 4.3(stat) +/- 6.6(syst) MeV and its width to be Gamma = 19.9 +/- 12.6(stat)(-8.0)(+3.0)(syst) MeV.

  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We measure the inclusive single muon charge asymmetry and the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in p (p) over bar collisions using the full data set of 10.4 fb(-1) collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The standard model predictions of the charge asymmetries induced by CP violation are small in magnitude compared to the current experimental precision, so nonzero measurements could indicate new sources of CP violation. The measurements differ from the standard model predictions of CP violation in these asymmetries with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations. These results are interpreted in a framework of B meson mixing within the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa formalism to measure the relative width difference Delta Gamma(d)/Gamma(d) between the mass eigenstates of the B-0 meson system and the semileptonic charge asymmetries a(sl)(d) and a(sl)(s) of B-0 and B-s(0) mesons, respectively.

  • Measurement of the combined rapidity and p(T) dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV

  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We present the first combined measurement of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations, using the recently proposed quantity R-Delta phi. The variable R-Delta phi measures the fraction of the inclusive dijet events in which the azimuthal separation of the two jets with the highest transverse momenta is less than a specified value of the parameter Delta phi(max). The quantity R-Delta phi is measured in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV, as a function of the dijet rapidity interval, the total scalar transverse momentum, and Delta phi(max). The measurement uses an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb(-1) collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are compared to predictions of a perturbative QCD calculation at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling with corrections for non-perturbative effects. The theory predictions describe the data well, except in the kinematic region of large dijet rapidity intervals and small Delta phi(max).
