  • Summary report of the TD-3 workshop: characterization of 83 antibodies against prostate-specific antigen
  • 1999
  • In: Tumor Biology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1423-0380 .- 1010-4283. ; 20:Suppl. 1, s. 1-12
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Twelve research groups participated in the ISOBM TD-3 Workshop in which the reactivity and specificity of 83 antibodies against prostate-specific antigen (PSA) were investigated. Using a variety of techniques including cross-inhibition assays, Western blotting, BIAcore, immunoradiometric assays and immunohistochemistry, the antibodies were categorized into six major groups which formed the basis for mapping onto two- and three-dimensional (2-D and 3-D) models of PSA. The overall findings of the TD-3 Workshop are summarized in this report. In agreement with all participating groups, three main antigenic domains were identified: free PSA-specific epitopes located in or close to amino acids 86-91; discontinuous epitopes specific for PSA without human kallikrein (hK2) cross-reactivity located at or close to amino acids 158-163; and continuous or linear epitopes shared between PSA and hK2 located close to amino acids 3-11. In addition, several minor and partly overlapping domains were also identified. Clearly, the characterization of antibodies from this workshop and the location of their epitopes on the 3-D model of PSA illustrate the importance of selecting appropriate antibody pairs for use in immunoassays. It is hoped that these findings and the epitope nomenclature described in this TD-3 Workshop are used as a standard for future evaluation of anti-PSA antibodies.

  • Shears bands in Pb-193
  • 1996
  • In: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 54:3, s. 1106-1116
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Four bands of enhanced dipole transitions, with weak crossovers, have been observed in Pb-195. Three of these bands are connected to the spherical levels. in addition, the spherical level scheme has been extended. The nuclear spectroscopy was done with the early implementation of GAMMASPHERE and HERA arrays of Get detectors. The nucleus Pb-193 was populated in the Yb-174(Mg-24,5n) reaction at beam energies of 129, 131, and 134 MeV. The experimental results are compared to tilted-axis cranking calculations. The systematical behavior of the dipole bands in the heavier odd-A Pb isotopes, Pb-195,Pb-197,Pb-199,Pb-201, is also discussed.

  • Breakdown of the independent particle approximation in high-energy photoionization
  • 1997
  • In: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007. ; 78:24, s. 4553-4556
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The independent particle approximation is shown to break down for the photoionization of both inner and outer nl (l > 0) electrons of all atoms, at high enough energy, owing to interchannel interactions with the nearby ns photoionization channels. The effect is illustrated for Ne 2p in the 1 keV photon energy range through a comparison of theory and experiment. The implications for x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of molecules and condensed matter are discussed.

  • Beyond the dipole approximation: angular-distribution effects in valence photoemission
  • 1997
  • In: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - 0953-4075. ; 30:21, s. L727-L733
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Angular distributions of valence photoelectrons showing effects due to highermultipole photon interactions have been measured for the first time. Neon 2s and 2p photoemission exhibits effects beyond the dipole approximation throughout the 250 to 1200 eV photon-energy range studied. The results suggest that any photoemission experiment, on any sample, can be affected at relatively low photon energies, pointing to a general need for caution in interpreting angle-resolved-photoemission measurements.

  • The K-shell Auger decay of atomic oxygen
  • 1997
  • In: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - 0953-4075. ; 30:20, s. 4489-4497
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Relative photoionization cross sections for O+ and O2+ produced by the Auger decay of a 1s hole in atomic oxygen were measured by using synchrotron radiation between 525 and 553 eV. Energies and quantum defects of the members of the two Rydberg series converging to [1s]2s22p4(4P) and [1s]2s22p4(2P) ionization thresholds were determined. In addition, the 2P and 4P ionization thresholds were calculated from the two Rydberg series. The 182 meV resolution of the monochromator allowed a detailed study over both thresholds revealing evidence for post-collision interaction and allowing a comparison of the ionization continuum above both 2P and 4P thresholds with that of the ionization continuum above the Ar L2 and L3 edges. This comparison indicates that the lifetimes of the Ar(2p) and O(1s) hole states are approximately the same.

  • Study of optical characteristics of damage in oxygen-implanted 6H-SiC
  • 1999
  • In: Journal of materials science letters. - 0261-8028 .- 1573-4811. ; 18:12, s. 979-982
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Oxygen ions, with an energy of 70 keV, and doses ranging from 5×1013 to 5×1015 cm-2, were implanted into 6H SiC. The damage energies were calculated as 0.93-93 eV/atom with the doses respectively. The dielectric function obtained from spectroscopic ellipsometry were quite sensitive to ion irradiation of the surface, while the first order Raman spectroscopy decreased in intensity with increasing O+ ion dose. The damage behavior characterized by optical measurements was in good agreement with characterization by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry and channeling and atomic force microscopy.

  • An analytical solution of finite‐amplitude solitary kinetic Alfvén waves
  • 1995
  • In: Physics of Plasmas. - : AIP Publishing. - 1070-664X .- 1089-7674. ; 2, s. 4476-4481
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • An analytical solution of finite-amplitude solitary kinetic Alfven waves (SKAWs) in a low-beta (beta much less than m(e)/m(i) much less than 1) plasma is presented. This solution has been compared with the solution of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation in the small-amplitude limit. It is found that the KdV soliton solution is valid only for the maximum relative density perturbation N-m<0.1. For the larger N-m, the exact analytical solution shows that the SKAWs have a much wider structure and much stronger perturbed fields than the KdV solitons with the same N-m. Moreover, the relations between the width and the amplitude of SKAWs are also considerably different from that of the KdV solitons. In addition the possibility for applying these results to some events observed from the Freja scientific satellite is discussed. (The Freja is a Swedish-German scientific project for the investigation of ionospheric and magnetospheric plasmas, and the Freja satellite was launched on a Long-March II rocket of China on October 6, 1992.) • Solitary kinetic Alfven waves in the two-fluid model
  • 1996
  • In: Physics of Plasmas. - : AIP Publishing. - 1070-664X .- 1089-7674. ; 3, s. 2879-2884
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Employing the two-fluid model, a generalized Sagdeev equation governing solitary kinetic Alfven waves (SKAWs) and the criterion for the existence of SKAWs, which are valid for different ranges of plasma pressure parameter beta, are presented. In the limit cases of beta much greater than m(e)/m(i) and beta much less than m(e)/m(i), the present results correspond, respectively, with conclusions obtained by Hasegawa ct al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 37, 690 (1976)] and by Shukla et al. [J. Plasma Phys. 28, 125 (1982)], that is, SKAWs accompanied by, respectively, hump and dip density solitons for beta much greater than m(e)/m(i) and beta much less than m(e)/m(i). However, for the case of beta similar to m(e)/m(i), the present results show that SKAWs accompanied by both hump and dip density solitons are possible, and lead to KdV solitons in the small amplitude limit. In addition, the possibility for applying these results to electromagnetic spikes observed by the Freja scientific satellite is discussed [detailed information about the Freja satellite experiments can be found in serial papers presented in Space Sci. Rev. 70, Nos. 3/4 (1994)]. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.

  • ONSET OF COLLECTIVITY IN NEUTRON-DEFICIENT PO-196,PO-198
  • 1995
  • In: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 52:2, s. 621-627
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We have studied via in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy Po-196 and Po-198, which are the first neutron-deficient Po isotopes to exhibit a collective low-lying structure. The ratios of yrast state energies and the E2 branching ratios of transitions from non-yrast to yrast states are indicative of a low-lying vibrational structure. The onset of collective motion in these isotopes can be attributed to the opening of the neutron i(13/2) orbital at N approximate to 112 and the resulting large overlap between the two valence protons in the h(9/2) orbital and the valence neutrons in the i(13/2) orbital.

  • 1997
  • In: Cancer Letters. - 1872-7980. ; 112:2, s. 225-231

    • Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) for in vivo point monitoring and fluorescence microscopy incorporating a CCD camera were used to study the fluorescence distribution of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in tumours. Fluorescence in a chemically induced adenocarcinoma in the liver of rats and in an aggressive basal cell carcinoma in a patient were studied after intravenous injection of ALA at a dose of 30 mg/kg body weight. The LIF technique demonstrated slightly more ALA-induced PpIX fluorescence in the tumour than in the surrounding normal liver and abdominal muscle of rats. The visible parts of the human basal cell carcinoma exhibited strong ALA-induced fluorescence, while this fluorescence was much weaker in the necrotic areas of the tumour and in the surrounding normal skin. • 1997
  • In: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. - 0953-4075. ; 30:2, s. L51-L58

    • We have measured the photoionization-excitation-to-photoionization ratio for He(+)nl (n = 2-6) at several photon energies from 90 to 900 eV. By extrapolating these values we could determine the asymptotic high-energy ratios for He(+)nl (n = 2-5) which agree with theoretical predictions. We show that the satellite-to-main-line ratios are consistent with experimental double-to-single photoionization ratios and agree well with recent measurements.
