  • Etik i kvalitativ og kolloborativ forskning – fordringer for forskere, medforskere og andre sundhedsprofessionelle
  • 2022
  • In: Klinisk Sygepleje. - : Scandinavian University Press / Universitetsforlaget AS. - 1903-2285 .- 0902-2767. ; 36:2, s. 123-136
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Ethics is always at stake in qualitative health and nursing research. The article examines and discusses research ethical dilemmas in qualitative health research, with a special focus on collaborative research. Firstly, the article discusses challenges with gatekeepers influencing the recruitment of informants when planning and executing interviews and participant observations. Secondly, the article discusses ethical challenges that arise in collaborative research when following research ethical guidelines such as obtaining informed consent, ensuring anonymization and not least complying with integrity in research. In qualitative health research, ethics must be understood as relational, processual, and situational and as such ethical dilemmas must be solved as the research proceeds. Therefore, research ethical issues and dilemmas must be solved ‘on the spot’ and not only at the desktop before the research project begins.

  • Small fish in a big pond : Product longevity design strategies for smart speakers
  • 2023
  • In: IASDR 2023: Life-changing design.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Extending the lifetime of the product, as one of the strategies for design for sustainability, may increase the value of the product in use, repair, recycle and disposal phases for a longer lifetime thereby decreasing demand for new manufacturing. However, employing these perspectives may be challenging and requires long development processes. In the current structure, small scale companies have a potential to be a significant actor in transition for sustainable manufacturing and design due to their agile development skills. We will present empirical data collected from eight participants regarding five small scale companies who design and manufacture long-lasting connected smart speakers. Key findings and implications highlight that small scale smart product producers strive to maintain control over design decisions in order to enhance the potential for long-lasting products; such companies thus need to be empowered towards distribution and decentralisation of design and manufacturing. To do so, (1) local manufacturing of the hardware is needed; (2) distributed and decentralised repair services need to be available to distribute the responsibility and increase the resilience of the product; (3) new types of intermediary relationships such as collaborating with local incubation centres and local initiatives should be encouraged; and (4) future designers may also need to practise their production skills and include open-source hardware and software development in their projects.

  • Linking discourse-level information and the induction of bilingual discourse connective lexicons
  • 2022
  • In: Semantic Web. - 1570-0844 .- 2210-4968. ; 13:6, s. 1081-1102
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The single biggest obstacle in performing comprehensive cross-lingual discourse analysis is the scarcity of multilingual resources. The existing resources are overwhelmingly monolingual, compelling researchers to infer the discourse-level information in the target languages through error-prone automatic means. The current paper aims to provide a more direct insight into the cross-lingual variations in discourse structures by linking the annotated relations of the TED-Multilingual Discourse Bank, which consists of independently annotated six TED talks in seven different languages. It is shown that the linguistic labels over the relations annotated in the texts of these languages can be automatically linked with English with high accuracy, as verified against the relations of three diverse languages semi-automatically linked with relations over English texts. The resulting corpus has a great potential to reveal the divergences in local discourse relations, as well as leading to new resources, as exemplified by the induction of bilingual discourse connective lexicons.

  • End to End 5G Measurements with MONROE: Challenges and Opportunities
  • 2018
  • In: 4th International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (IEEE RTSI 2018). - : IEEE. - 9781538662823
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • To be able to support diverse requirements of massive number of connected devices while also ensuring good user experience, 5G networks will leverage multi-access technolo- gies, deploy supporting operational mechanisms such as SDN and NFV, and require enhanced protocols and algorithms. For 4G networks, MONROE has been key to provide a common measurement platform and a set of methodologies available to the wider community. Such common grounds will become even more important and more challenging with 5G. In this paper, we elaborate on some key requirements for the design and implementation of 5G technologies and highlight the key challenges and needs for new solutions as seen in the context of 5G end-to-end measurements. We then discuss the opportunities that MONROE provides and more specifically, how a 5G-capable MONROE platform could facilitate these efforts.

  • Learning by negotiation - Stake and salience in implementing a journal management system
  • 2015
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This research investigates how an international academic journal implements a new journal management system to overcome their knowledge management issues. By adopting a case study approach, the stakeholders involved within the project are identified and their salience for the organisation is mapped. By providing an account of how these stakeholders negotiated each other, the case highlights how these negotiations are learning processes, showing that learning process is not a conflict-free process. The case also shows that the stakeholder salience changes throughout the project, thus raising the importance of viewing these negotiations as learning platforms rather than just arenas of power struggles, and to use them as opportunities to identify possible future stakeholders
