  • In this paper, the performance of the world's largest ball mill, of dimensions Φ 6.5 × 9.65m length, at Kirkenes concentrator of A/S Sydvaranger, Norway, is analyzed on the basis of Bond's theory. The data obtained reveal that the mill functioning is efficient from the standpoint of energy consumption under operating conditions. However, a comparison with the estimated performance according to Bond's theory shows that it has a lower capacity and coarser product. The problems of using Bond's method for the scale-up of the large ball mill are discussed.
