Ordering of atoms and vacancies in cubic gamma brasses

• The article reviews crystal structure investigations of some binary cubic gamma brasses. The normal l-centered and primitive gamma brass structures as well as 2 x 2 x 2 cubic superstructures with both F- and l-centered unit cells are described. The adoption of unit cell type and the ordering of atoms and vacancies over the different crystallographic sites are discussed with reference to the numbers of different contacts and the degree of space filling. Some experimental problems in the determination of gamma brass structures are also discussed.
