During the course of the expedition on the icebreaker Oden II geomorphological and echos sounding was done on the Lomonosov Range that stretches across the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. Hansson muses on this task that was commissioned by Denmark to boost its future claim to extend its continental shelf above Greenland preparatory to gas and oil exploration and exploatation.
