- The issue is rhetorical strategies in Scandinavian short fiction at the time of the Modern Breakhrough and Fin de siècle 1880–1914. It is argued that short fiction, because of its economy, compression, and intensity prepares a reflective and pondering kind reading, that also refers to premodern dichotic traditions. Examples from Juha Aho, Herman Bang, Einar Kvaran, Sigbjørn Obstfelder, and Per Hallström are discussed.
