On the reception in Sweden of Simona Semenic's 5boys.com

• This presentation addresses the critically acclaimed performance of Simona Semenic's 5boys.com at Backa Teater in Sweden in 2012. Directed by Anja Susa, the production was met with stellar reviews and audience appreciation; among other things it was selected for Sweden's 2013 theatre biennial. While analyzing some of the play's central themes and formal/stylistic interventions, I will consider its resonance in the social and discursive context of a country that prides itself on its gender awareness, (social-)democratic tradition, stance on anti-violence, and progressiveness in theatre for children and youth.
