- In an ongoing study the model Early Educational Language Support Activities (ELSA) is carried out through action research in preschools in south-west of Sweden. The model includes three steps a) video-taped observations of a situation chosen by the preschool teachers b) quantitative and qualitative data collected by the teachers with an observation-tool to identify their language support c) collegial discussions together with a researcher to find potentials for changing aspects of the language support. Observation data are compared before and after collegial discussions and actions in the chosen situations. So far, the study has shown that the teachers have gain several new insights on how to change and support the interaction with the children to improve their language. In the paper the model will be described through scores from the observation-tool and from the teachers’ reflections from one unit of the preschools included.
