BabA mediates the initial attachment of H. pylori to the human gastric mucosa. The first observation recognized by H. pylori BabA was followed by a division of BabA-producing H. pylori strains into specialist and generalist strains, depending on their mode of binding to Leb and related carbohydrate sequences (5).
