Abstract
Subject headings
Close
- Japanese and Ryukyuan are similar in their lexical prosodic properties such as pitch accent and using duration in differentiating meaning. For the performance of singing traditional poems, waka (Japan) and ryuka (Ryukyu) use different phonetic strategies for phrasing. Waka uses extreme vowel lengthening while ryuka uses F0, showing that the phrasing strategy can go beyond the prosodic typology.
