Incest, situation, förbud, beteende.

• This paper is, as the title says. about the incest situation, about the prohibition of incest, and about incest behavior. In the first part I am discussing the incest situation in terms of "the definition of the situation". I make an attempt to define incest in terms of Parsons´ pattern variables, and discuss the links between these variables and Ferdinand Tönnies´ concepts of "Gemeinschaft" and "Gasellschaft". In the second part of the study I present and discuss different theories about the origin of the prohibition of incest. This part ends with a comparison between the functionalistic and the structuralistic theory of the prohibition of incest. The third part of the study deals with an investigation of incest behaviour in Sweden, made by Olof Kinberg, Gunnar Inghe, and Svend Riemer (1943). I review and criticize their frame of reference as well as their methods and results.
