• This critical survey is the first ever published based on all the documents from the private archives of the Swedish Academy concerning the Italian candidates to the Nobel Prize in Literature from 1901 to 1957. The study also contains the complete list of all the writers who were candidated to the literary prize and of those who wrote to the Swedish Academy proposing their names, thus being a precious source of information for scholars of literature from all over the world.
