  • Obesity is increasing worldwide and is associated with increased risk of developing metabolic diseases. One of the factors that have been demonstrated to influence the regulation of appetite and food intake is the different sex hormones, one of these being progesterone that in humans increase food intake (Hirschberg, 2012). In this issue of Acta Physiologica, Holmberg and colleagues present their work where they have investigated the diurnally effect of the progesterone metabolite allopregnanolone in male Wistar rats (Holmberg et al., 2013).
