- This paper introduces a method allowing characterisingthe growth of electrical trees in wire-plane electrodeobjects. By applying both electrical and opticalmeasurements the inception level and the number of treeswere analysed. It is shown that the results observedoptically closely resemble the electrically detected PDbehaviour, thus exhibiting a good correlation betweenboth the methods. This indicates a possibility for analysingelectrical treeing process in non-transparent materialsbased on the electrical measurement only and opens foran efficient approach in evaluating new materials for cableinsulation.
