  • Tagging of η mesons using the pd → 3Heη reaction near threshold
  • 2006
  • In: Instruments and experimental techniques (New York). - : Springer. - 0020-4412 .- 1608-3180. ; 49:4, s. 461-467
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A zero-degree spectrometer for tagging η mesons on the CELSIUS/WASA facility is described, and its characteristics are presented. Tagging of η mesons is performed by detecting 3He ions produced by reaction pd → 3Heη close to the production threshold. The low background level (<2%) is in good agreement with the data obtained earlier on the SATURNE accelerator.

  • A method for nondestructive assay of nuclear materials in facilities with a pulse neutron generator and a digital technology for discrimination between neutrons and photons
  • 2013
  • In: Instruments and Experimental Techniques. - 1608-3180 .- 0020-4412. ; 56:6, s. 620-627
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A method for determining the U-235 concentration in fuel assemblies of a high-power channel-type PBMK reactor is described. The measure of U-235 content of an analyzed sample is the number of neutrons from thermal-neutron fission of U-235, normalized to the number of gamma quanta produced in thermal neutron capture by hydrogen nuclei in the scintillator or by B-10 in the glass of a photomultiplier tube. A pulse neutron generator based on DT reaction is the neutron source, and an organic scintillator with the pulse shape discrimination between neutrons and gamma rays with the aid of the digital technology is a detector. The scintillator is also used as a neutron moderator. Simulation of the method shows that the U-235 content of the analyzed sample can be determined for 1 min with an accuracy of 1% or better. The efficiency of the method has been confirmed by experimental investigations on a model of the setup.

  • Fabrication and Characteristics of Mesh Band-Pass Filters
  • 2009
  • In: Instruments and Experimental Techniques. - 1608-3180 .- 0020-4412. ; 52:1, s. 74-78
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Grid band-pass filters for 300-, 450-, 600-, and 750-GHz central frequencies are designed and fabricated.Copper and aluminum foil and foil-clad teflon filters were made by chemical and ion-beam etching, and an aluminum film evaporated on a kapton film was formed by the lift-off lithography. A gold layer was electrolytically applied on copper mesh filters. Characteristics of the filters were measured in the millimeter, submillimeter, and infrared (IR) ranges. Foil filters demonstrate better characteristics at lower frequencies, while filters with evaporated films have better characteristics at upper frequencies. The smallest transmission loss was 0.13 dB. For a stack consisting of four filters, this loss was 0.9 dB. The IR radiation attenuation in a 2.5- to 25-μm wavelength region was over 11 dB per filter.

  • A CAMAC-USB crate controller
  • 2010
  • In: Instruments and experimental techniques (New York). - 0020-4412 .- 1608-3180. ; 53:1, s. 79-83
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • 79-83A controller providing communication between a computer and a CAMAC crate via the USB bus is described. For this purpose, the controller includes a DLP-USB245M module, which allows a programmer to work with the controller through a virtual COM port and, at the same time, provides all the advantages of the USB standard. We consider versions of interactions of the DLP-USB module with controller registers on a programmable logic array and on the microcontroller.

  • Recombinant versus plasma-derived factor VIII products and the development of inhibitors in previously untreated patients with severe hemophilia A: the CANAL cohort study
  • 2007
  • In: Blood. - : American Society of Hematology. - 1528-0020 .- 0006-4971. ; 109:11, s. 4693-4697
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • It has been suggested that plasma-derived factor VIII products induce fewer inhibitors than recombinant factor VIII products. We investigated the relationship of factor VIII product type and switching between factor VIII products with the risk to develop inhibitors. This multicenter retrospective cohort study included 316 patients with severe hemophilia A born between 1990 and 2000. The outcome was clinically relevant inhibitor development, defined as the occurrence of at least 2 positive inhibitor titers with decreased recovery. The risk of inhibitor development was not clearly lower in plasma-derived compared with recombinant factor VIII products (relative risk [RR],. 0.8; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.5-1.3). Among high-titer inhibitors, the possible reduction in risk was even less pronounced (RR, 0.9; CI, 0.5-1.5). Plasma-derived products with considerable quantities of von Willebrand factor (VWF) carried the same risk for inhibitor development as recombinant factor VIII products (RR, 1.0; CI, 0.6-1.6). Switching between factor VIII products did not increase the risk for inhibitors (RR, 1.1; CI, 0.6-1.8). In conclusion, our findings support neither the notion that plasma-derived factor VIII products with considerable concentrations of VWF confer a lower risk to develop inhibitory antibodies than recombinant factor VIII products, nor that switching between factor VIII product brands increases inhibitor risks in previously untreated patients with severe hemophilia A.
