  • The Influence Of Generativity On Value Creation – A Study Of Digitized Products
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 8th IADIS International Conference on Information Systems. - : IADIS Press. - 9789898533333 ; , s. 51-60
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The advancement of digital technologies is driving traditional product oriented businesses to move from selling product to selling solutions. In order to exploit business potentials from technology, it is important to understand the potential of the technology and how it influences the value creation in a digital environment where it is developed and to be deployed. To understand this changing environment, I have studied remote diagnostics as an example of digital technology within the vehicle industry as a source of new value for business. The findings show that digitized products not only helps to solve existing problems in providing services but also provides potential to generate value for new products and services in the networked environment. An implication from the findings for product oriented firms is that value creation with digitized products requires new business processes. Based on the findings, a discussion is presented about how generativity influences value creation via value in design, governance and networking in a digital ecosystem.

  • Agile Research in Information Systems Field : Analysis from Knowledge Transformation Perspective
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 8th IADIS International Conference on Information Systems 2015. - : IADIS Press. - 9789898533333 ; , s. 3-10
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Due to the relative success of agile methods in software development, the idea of having agile processes started to be tested in other areas, for example, agile business process development. This trend already reached the research community and there have appeared some materials that suggest using agility in research projects. Analysis of these suggestions, however, shows that they do not go beyond finding superficial analogy between the concepts of the software development and research projects. The paper presents a deeper analysis of the concept of agile research in Information Systems (IS) based on the analysis of the research projects from the knowledge transformation perspective. As a basis for analysis, the SECI model of Nonaka is used. Based on this analysis, several suggestions are made on how to conduct agile research in IS, e.g. prioritize relevance over vigor, test early for a practical purpose, use own experience and reflections, etc. It is also shown that some research types, like action research and design science, are more suitable for conducting agile research than others. The paper also gives analysis of risks of non-agile research, and presents an example where they are revealed.

  • Technology Enhanced Learning of Modeling Skills in the Field of Information Systems
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IADIS international conference on information systems, 2015. - : IADIS Press. - 9789898533333 ; , s. 121-128
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports on a project aimed at using simulation for improving the quality of teaching and learning in the field of Information Systems. More specifically, the project goal was facilitating the students to acquire skills of building models of organizational structure and behavior through analysis of internal and external documents, and interviewing employees and management. The solution tested in the project was a computerized environment utilizing multi-media to simulate a business case. The paper gives an overview of the problem that the solution addresses, presents the solution, and reports on a trial completed in a first year undergraduate course at Stockholm University. The results of the trial indicate that using rich multi-media along with a case based learning approach did improve the overall performance of the students. It was also shown that both students’ and the teachers’ attitude toward the solution was positive.

  • Combining ISMS with strategic management : The case of BYOD
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Information Systems 2015. - : IADIS Press. - 9789898533333 ; , s. 161-168
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) (where employees use their private devices for work) causes problems for organisations since their management systems are seldom designed for this purpose. If BYOD is not adequately regulated, many security and privacy issues may result. This paper proposes an analysis-design-action framework for designing a suitable security management strategy by combining Johnson and Scholes’ strategic management model with the ISO/IEC 27000-series.

  • Challenges and Opportunities with Information System Support for Healthcare Processes : a Healthcare Practitioner Perspective
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 8th IADIS International Conference Information Systems 2015, IS 2015. - : IADIS Press. - 9789898533333 ; 10:1, s. 80-96
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Healthcare processes require the cooperation of different healthcare providers and medical disciplines. In such an environment, the quality and safety of care rely heavily on the ability to exchange information from one software to another, and from one person to another. However, information systems that support a seamless flow of information along healthcare processes are not broadly used in healthcare environments. Usually, healthcare organizations have their own autonomously developed information systems that do not support the cooperation of different organizational units and medical disciplines. This has led to the fragmentation of the patients’ information in proprietary heterogeneous systems across healthcare organizations. The aim of this paper is to: (1) explore how healthcare practitioners´ in Sweden experience information system support in their daily work activities, and (2) present and illustrate how key design principles of a process support system prototype can support healthcare practitioners in their work practice. An important conclusion from this research is that a process support as the one described in this paper creates new opportunities to organize and coordinate healthcare

  • Supporting evidence based medicine : A prototype for future healthcare information systems
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Information Systems 2015. - 9789898533333 ; , s. 185-195
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The primary and basic component of healthcare is information. Being a healthcare practitioner involves using medical knowledge and patient information to deliver the best possible care. When decisions about the care of the patient are made they must as far as possible be based on research-derived evidence rather than on clinical skills and experience alone. This decision process is complex as evidence is infrequently available in a form that can be acted upon at the time decisions must be made. The aim of this paper is to present and illustrate how a prototype visualization of a process support system can support the availability of relevant medical knowledge in a way which seamlessly integrates with healthcare practitioners work practice, and thereby enables healthcare practitioners to work in accordance with EBM. An important conclusion from this research is that a process support as the one described in this paper can reshape the practice of EBM
