  • Individual Face-to-Face Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Multiple Sclerosis : A Qualitative Study
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Psychology. - : Wiley. - 0021-9762 .- 1097-4679. ; 72:7, s. 651-662
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To investigate how people with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience their participation in individual, face-to-face cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) aimed at alleviating depressive symptoms.METHOD: Semistructured interviews with 12 participants were conducted after CBT and analyzed using qualitative content analysis.RESULTS: Two main themes emerged: CBT as a demanding process and confronting everyday life after CBT with self-knowledge and well-being. The participants had gained strategies for handling feelings of depression and anxiety. The therapist was considered important for guiding them through the demanding therapy.CONCLUSION: It is important to inform the participants of what CBT entails so that they are mentally prepared for the demanding process and can make the necessary adjustments in their daily life. Knowledge of MS among the therapists as well as collaboration with the multidisciplinary MS care may facilitate participation in CBT.

  • Personality and work life: A comparison between hearing impaired persons and a normal hearing population : Social Behavior and Personality
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Social Behavior and Personality. ; 31:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the last decade there has been an increasing interest in the role of impulsivity and aggressiveness in psychosocial disturbances. Despite scientific efforts, several aspects of the relationships between these personality features and Personality Disorders and violence are still controversial. A relevant question concerns the reciprocal relationships between impulsivity and aggressiveness, and their interaction with other “action” personality traits or temperamental traits, e.g., sensation seeking. Another controversial topic is the identification of biological and neuropsychological markers of impulsivity and aggressiveness in order to get more objective measures of these personality traits than those produced by subjects' self-reports, and to obtain a deeper understanding of the phenotypic aspects underlying impulsive and aggressive behaviours as manifested in violence. Starting from these considerations, the present session aims at sheding some light on the implications and consequences of impulsivity for psychosocial disturbances, such as abuse and violence. The issue will be discussed in terms of development, possible underlying factors, attitudes and consequences, which can be particularly relevant from a clinical and forensic point of view.

  • Reduced capacity in a dichotic memory test for adult patients with ADHD
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of attention disorders. - : SAGE Publications. - 1557-1246 .- 1087-0547. ; 13:6, s. 677-683
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To evaluate whether a dichotic memory test would reveal deficits in short-term working-memory recall and long-term memory recall in a group of adult patients with ADHD. Methods: A dichotic memory test with ipsilateral backward speech distraction in an adult ADHD group ( n = 69) and a control group ( n = 66) is used to compare performance between the groups and inside the subgroups of ADHD diagnosed with DSM-IV. Results: The ADHD participants showed significant impairment in the dichotic memory test compared with control participants when controlled for age, sex, and education. Study findings reveal that there is no difference in subdivision in the three ADHD subgroups of DSM-IV. A discriminant analysis shows an overall classification rate of 78% and specific in ADHD 80%. Conclusions: The results indicate that the dichotic test is measuring one of the important ADHD deficits. (J. of Att. Dis. 2010; 13(6) 677-683)

  • Diplomacy and psychology: Prevention of armed conflicts after the cold war
  • 2006
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Different chapters in this book reviews relevant research in psychology and discusses its ap-plication to the diplomatic peaceful resolution of international conflicts. In an introductory chapter written by an experienced Swedish diplomat and former minister of foreign affairs, who himself has taken part in many international negotiations, the most important problems facing preventive diplomacy are identified. After the first part of the book with several chap-ters providing general perspectives on diplomacy and psychology including a detailed account of the contributions by the former secretary general Dag Hammarskjöld, these problems are treated in the remaining three parts of the book: Identifying precursors that would make pos-sible to forecast and prevent social conflicts, planning and conducting effective negotiation and mediation, and post-conflict reconciliation and adherance to agreements
