  • The Forward Physics Facility : Sites, experiments, and physics potential
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Physics reports. - : Elsevier. - 0370-1573 .- 1873-6270. ; 968, s. 1-50
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Forward Physics Facility (FPF) is a proposal to create a cavern with the space and infrastructure to support a suite of far-forward experiments at the Large Hadron Collider during the High Luminosity era. Located along the beam collision axis and shielded from the interaction point by at least 100 m of concrete and rock, the FPF will house experiments that will detect particles outside the acceptance of the existing large LHC experiments and will observe rare and exotic processes in an extremely low-background environment. In this work, we summarize the current status of plans for the FPF, including recent progress in civil engineering in identifying promising sites for the FPF and the experiments currently envisioned to realize the FPF's physics potential. We then review the many Standard Model and new physics topics that will be advanced by the FPF, including searches for long-lived particles, probes of dark matter and dark sectors, high-statistics studies of TeV neutrinos of all three flavors, aspects of perturbative and non-perturbative QCD, and high-energy astroparticle physics.

  • The γ∗γ∗→ ηc (1S; 2S) transition form factor from quarkonium wave functions
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: PHOTON 2019 - International Conference on the Structure and the Interactions of the Photon. - 1122-5157. - 9788886409704 ; 69, s. 95-100
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss γ ∗γ ∗→ ηc(1S) ; ηc (2S) transition form factor for both virtual photons. The general formula is given. We use difierent models for the cc̄ wave function obtained from the solution of the Schrödinger equation for diffierent cc̄ potentials: harmonic oscillator, Cornell, logarithmic, power-law, Coulomb and Buchmüller{Tye. We showed some examples of wave functions in the Light Front representation as well as in the rest frame of cc̄. We compare our results to the BaBar experimental data for ηc(1S), with one real and one virtual photon, and to the values collected by the Particle Data Group for the form factor F(0; 0), decay width τγ γ and decay constant fηc . We also consider the non-relativistic limit for F(0; 0) with the wave function evaluated at the origin R(0).

    • We discuss γ∗γ∗ → ηc(1S), ηc(2S) transition form factors for both virtual photons. The general formula is given. We use different models for the cc¯ wave function obtained from the solution of the Schrödinger equation for different cc¯ potentials: harmonic oscillator, Cornell, logarithmic, power-law, Coulomb and Buchmüller-Tye. We showed some examples of wave functions in the Light Front representation as well as in the rest frame of cc¯ pair. We compare our results to the BaBar experimental data for ηc(1S), for one real and one virtual photon, and to the values collected by the Particle Data Group for F(0,0), decay width Γγγ and decay constant fηc. We also considered the non-relativistic limit for F(0,0) form factor with the wave function at the origin R(0).

  • γ∗γ∗ →ηc (1S,2S) transition form factors for spacelike photons
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - 2470-0010. ; 100:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We derive the light-front wave function (LFWF) representation of the γ∗γ∗→ηc(1S),ηc(2S) transition form factor F(Q12,Q22) for two virtual photons in the initial state. For the LFWF, we use different models obtained from the solution of the Schrödinger equation for a variety of cc̄ potentials. We compare our results to the BABAR experimental data for the ηc(1S) transition form factor, for one real and one virtual photon. We observe that the onset of the asymptotic behavior is strongly delayed and discuss applicability of the collinear and/or massless limit. We present some examples of two-dimensional distributions for F(Q12,Q22). A factorization breaking measure is proposed and factorization breaking effects are quantified and shown to be almost model independent. Factorization is shown to be strongly broken, and a scaling of the form factor as a function of Q̄2=(Q12+Q22)/2 is obtained.

  • Nuclear effects in Drell-Yan pair production in high-energy pA collisions
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-7998. ; 93:9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Drell-Yan (DY) process of dilepton pair production off nuclei is not affected by final state interactions, energy loss, or absorption. A detailed phenomenological study of this process is thus convenient for investigation of the onset of initial-state effects in proton-nucleus (pA) collisions. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of the DY process in pA interactions at RHIC and LHC energies in the color dipole framework. We analyze several effects affecting the nuclear suppression, RpA

  • Editor's Choice - Recommendations for Registry Data Collection for Revascularisations of Acute Limb Ischaemia : A Delphi Consensus from the International Consortium of Vascular Registries
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. - : W B SAUNDERS CO LTD. - 1078-5884 .- 1532-2165. ; 57:6, s. 816-821
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To develop a minimum core data set for evaluation of acute limb ischaemia (ALI) revascularisation treatment and outcomes that would enable collaboration among international registries. Methods: A modified Delphi approach was used to achieve consensus among international multidisciplinary vascular specialists and registry members of the International Consortium of Vascular Registries (ICVR). Variables identified in the literature or suggested by the expert panel, and variables, including definitions, currently used in 15 countries in the ICVR, were assessed to define both a minimum core and an optimum data set to register ALI treatment. Clinical relevance and practicability were both assessed, and consensus was defined as >= 80% agreement among participants. Results: Of 40 invited experts, 37 completed a preliminary survey and 31 completed the two subsequent Delphi rounds via internet exchange and face to face discussions. In total, 117 different items were generated from the various registry data forms, an extensive review of the literature, and additional suggestions from the experts, for potential inclusion in the data set. Ultimately, 35 items were recommended for inclusion in the minimum core data set, including 23 core items important for all registries, and an additional 12 more specific items for registries capable of capturing more detail. These 35 items supplement previous data elements recommended for registering chronic peripheral arterial occlusive disease treatment. Conclusion: A modified Delphi study allowed 37 international vascular registry experts to achieve a consensus recommendation for a minimum core and an optimum data set for registries covering patients who undergo ALI revascularisation. Continued global harmonisation of registry infrastructure and definition of items allows international comparisons and global quality improvement. Furthermore, it can help to define and monitor standards of care and enable international research collaboration.

  • Stratification strength and light climate explain variation in chlorophyll a at the continental scale in a European multilake survey in a heatwave summer
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Limnology and Oceanography. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0024-3590 .- 1939-5590. ; 66:12, s. 4314-4333
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To determine the drivers of phytoplankton biomass, we collected standardized morphometric, physical, and biological data in 230 lakes across the Mediterranean, Continental, and Boreal climatic zones of the European continent. Multilinear regression models tested on this snapshot of mostly eutrophic lakes (median total phosphorus [TP] = 0.06 and total nitrogen [TN] = 0.7 mg L-1), and its subsets (2 depth types and 3 climatic zones), show that light climate and stratification strength were the most significant explanatory variables for chlorophyll a (Chl a) variance. TN was a significant predictor for phytoplankton biomass for shallow and continental lakes, while TP never appeared as an explanatory variable, suggesting that under high TP, light, which partially controls stratification strength, becomes limiting for phytoplankton development. Mediterranean lakes were the warmest yet most weakly stratified and had significantly less Chl a than Boreal lakes, where the temperature anomaly from the long-term average, during a summer heatwave was the highest (+4 degrees C) and showed a significant, exponential relationship with stratification strength. This European survey represents a summer snapshot of phytoplankton biomass and its drivers, and lends support that light and stratification metrics, which are both affected by climate change, are better predictors for phytoplankton biomass in nutrient-rich lakes than nutrient concentrations and surface temperature.

  • Drell-Yan phenomenology in the color dipole picture revisited
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D (Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology). - 1550-7998. ; 93:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An extensive phenomenological study of the Drell-Yan (DY) process in pp collisions at various energies is performed in the color dipole framework. Besides previously studied γ∗ production we also include the Z0 contribution relevant at large dilepton invariant masses. We investigate the DY cross section differential in invariant mass, rapidity and transverse momentum of the dilepton pair in pp collisions at the RHIC and LHC. We consider three different phenomenological models for the dipole cross section and find a reasonable agreement with the available data. As a further test of the color dipole formalism, we also study the correlation function in azimuthal angle between the dilepton pair and a forward pion Δφ for different energies, dilepton rapidities and invariant masses. The characteristic double-peak structure of the correlation function around Δφ≃π found for very forward pions and low-mass dilepton pairs is sensitive to the saturation effects and can be tested by future DY measurements in pp collisions.
