  • På gränsen till en ny värld : studenters informationspraktiker på väg mot arbetslivet
  • 2019
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • With the increasing academisation of vocational educations the need for higher education to prove to students the relevance of theoretical domain knowledge to professional experience is growing. One way of doing so is to provide students with opportunities for professional training during the course of their studies. The aim of this thesis is to explore the ways in which professional training help students to connect education with working life. The study is carried out through a practice theoretical lens on students’ information practices. It also entails exploring how their information activities contribute to their socialization within workplace communities and to their construction of professional identities. Through qualitative semi-structured interviews, the empirically driven analysis shows that students’ appropriation of information practices during professional training support learning, socialization into a workplace as well as identification with their future professional roles. Students’ information practices can be viewed as significant tools in the process of transition between education and profession where they function as facilitators for learning and participation in workplace activities.

  • Avoiding negative information as a strategy for emotion regulation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Information research. - : University of Boras, Faculty of Librarianship, Information, Education and IT. - 1368-1613. ; 27
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction. The aim of the paper is to investigate whether the personality trait negative emotionality and sense of coherence influence emotionally motivated information avoidance, i.e., avoidance of negative information that potentially evoke anxiety or worry.Method. Data from 412 respondents was collected in a survey which measured negative emotionality, sense of coherence and information avoidance.Analysis.A conceptual model is proposed, and structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied to analyse the data.Results. Negative emotionality was found to influence information avoidance not only directly, but also indirectly through the manageability dimension of sense of coherence. In other words, manageability mediates the relationship between negative emotionality and information avoidance.Conclusions. The study contributes by showing that personal inclinations impact emotionally motivated information avoidance across contexts.

  • Hide and seek – the role of personality, sense of coherence and experiential information in hidden information needs
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Documentation. - 0022-0418 .- 1758-7379. ; 78:4, s. 780-799
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The aim of this study is to assess the impact of personality traits and sense of coherence (SOC) on concealing information needs out of shame. The study also investigates the link between concealed information needs and the use of experiential information for psychological wellbeing.Design/methodology/approach – A Partial Least Square ‐ Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) approach is used to assess and analyse the proposed conceptual model, which is based on the responses of 412 upper secondary school students.Findings – The findings reveal that personality traits not only have direct significant effects on concealing information needs but that their effects are also mediated by SOC. The positive relationship between concealed information needs and the use of experiential information is confirmed in the study.Originality/value – This study is the first to show that personality and SOC influence concealing information needs. Two pathways are found. Firstly, negative emotionality and a low SOC lead to a heightened sense of shame. Secondly, introversion induces a more guarded behaviour. The study, moreover, quantitatively demonstrates a link between concealed information needs and the use of experiential information for psychological wellbeing.

  • Sense of coherence as influencing information sharing at the workplace
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Aslib Journal of Information Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2050-3806 .- 2050-3814. ; 73:2, s. 201-220
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: This study introduces sense of coherence (SOC) as a factor in information sharing at the workplace.Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected by a survey conducted on 311 respondents in a multinational organization, and analyzed using partial least square structural equation modelling.Findings: SOC influenced information sharing both directly and indirectly as mediated by trust and employee learning orientation. Trust, moreover, influenced receiving information more strongly than sending it, while employee learning orientation more strongly affected sending information.Originality/value: The findings underline the importance of a holistic understanding of information sharing, including individual differences and employee well-being.
