  • Fiskbestånd och miljö i hav och sötvatten : Resurs- och miljööversikt 2012
  • 2012
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Extending the Energy efficiency gap
  • 2012
  • In: Energy Policy. - : Elsevier. - 0301-4215 .- 1873-6777. ; 51, s. 392-396
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In order to reach the EU: s 20–20–20 primary energy savings target, energy efficiency needs to increase. Previous research on energy use and energy efficiency has focused mainly on the diffusion of energy efficient technologies. The discrepancy between optimal and actual implementation of energy efficient technologies has been illustrated in numerous articles and is often referred to as the energy efficiency gap. However, efficient technologies are not the only ways to increase energy efficiency. Empirical studies have found that a cost-effective way to improve energy efficiency is to combine investments in energy-efficient technologies with continuous energy management practices. By including energy management into an estimated energy efficiency potential this paper introduces an extended energy efficiency gap, mainly in manufacturing industries and the commercial sector. The inclusion of energy management components in future energy policy will play an important role if the energy savings targets for 2020, and later 2050, are to be met in the EU.

  • Results from the Swedish National Screening Programme 2008. Screening of unintentionally produced organic contaminants
  • 2010
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This report considers the screening of unintentionally produced substances. Substance groups included in the screening program were oxygenated and nitrated forms of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as well as nitrogen, sulphur and oxygen containing heterocyclic compounds. Polybrominated dibenzodioxins (PBDD) and furans (PBDF), polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes (PCDT) and dibenzotianthrenes (PCDTA) were also included in the study. PAHs and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were included as reference substances. The results of the screening showed that oxidized and nitrated forms of PAHs as well as heterocyclic analogues of PAHs were frequently found in background and urban areas and in most of the environmental matrices included in the study. PCDTs were found in most abiotic samples while PCDTA generally was below the limit-of-detection. The concentrations of PBDDs were generally below the limit-of-detection but were found in deposition, urban sediment, background sediment, and fish from Kvädöfjärden. The PBDF concentrations in air varied widely in time and space. OBDF occurred in similar concentrations as PCBs in air, deposition, sediment and soil.

  • Predicting formative feedback practices : improving learning and minimising a tendency to ignore feedback
  • 2023
  • In: Frontiers in Education. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 2504-284X. ; 8
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Introduction: Teacher conceptions of feedback ideally predict their feedback practices, but little robust evidence identifies which beliefs matter to practices. It is logical to presume that teacher conceptions of feedback would align with the policy framework of an educational jurisdiction. The Teacher Conceptions of Feedback (TCoF) inventory was developed in New Zealand which has a relatively low-stakes, formative policy framework. Methods: This study surveyed 451 Swedish teachers working in Years 1-9, a policy context that prioritises teachers using multiple data sources to help students learn. The study used a translated version of the TCoF inventory, but isolated six items related to formative feedback practices from various factors. Results: A six-factor TCoF was recovered (Praise, Improvement, Ignore, Required, PASA, and Timely), giving partial replication to the previous study. A well-fitting structural equation model showed formative practices were predicted by just two conceptions of feedback (i.e., feedback improves learning and students may ignore feedback). Discussion: This study demonstrates that the TCoF inventory can be used to identify plausible relations from feedback beliefs to formative feedback practices.

  • Swedish teacher conceptions of assessment : a focus on improving outcomes
  • 2024
  • In: Education Inquiry. - : Routledge. - 2000-4508.
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Understanding teachers’ conceptions of assessment is a key objective in supporting assessment practices that lead to improved learning outcomes. Thus, inventories capable of identifying teachers’ assessment conceptions are important. The Teachers Conceptions of Assessment (TCoA) inventory was an early and influential measure of teacher assessment conceptions, but replication studies have shown that the model may be affected by policy and practice context. In the present study, a Swedish adaptation of the TCoA was administered twice, 18 months apart. A sample of 249 teachers were matched across the 2 time-points and their self-reported scores were analysed with confirmatory factor analysis and invariance testing. With good correspondence to the data, six of the nine factors in the TCoA were completely replicated and one factor was partially replicated. The model had sufficient similarity between time points to permit mean score comparisons, which were largely equivalent between times. The study indicates that the Swedish Teacher Conceptions of Assessment adaptation can be used reliably in Swedish primary and lower secondary schools as measure of teacher conceptions of the uses of assessment.

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome and psychiatric disorders: Co-morbidity and heritability in a nationwide Swedish cohort.
  • 2016
  • In: Psychoneuroendocrinology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-3360 .- 0306-4530. ; 73, s. 196-203
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder affecting 5-15% of reproductive-aged women and characterized by high levels of circulating androgens. Given that androgens have been implicated in the aetiology of several psychiatric disorders, it was hypothesized that women with PCOS have high risk for psychiatric comorbidity. We aimed to investigate this risk amongst women with PCOS, as well as in their siblings, to elucidate if familial factors underlie any potential associations. Using the Swedish national registers, we identified all women diagnosed with PCOS between 1990 and 2013 (n=24,385), their full-siblings (n=25,921), plus matched individuals (1:10/100) from the general population and their full-siblings. Psychiatric disorder diagnoses were identified including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depressive and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, personality and gender identity disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), tics, attempted and completed suicide. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using conditional logistic regression and adjusted ORs (AOR) were determined by adjustment for comorbid psychiatric disorders. Overall, women with PCOS had an increased odds of having at least one psychiatric disorder (OR=1.56 [95CI%, 1.51-1.61]). Crude ORs showed associations with nearly all psychiatric disorders included in this study. Following adjustment for comorbid psychiatric disorders, women with PCOS were still at a significantly increased risk for bulimia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depressive and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, with the highest AORs for ASD (AOR=1.55 [95%CI, 1.32-1.81]) and tics (AOR=1.65 [95%CI, 1.10-2.47]). Significantly higher AORs were found for ASD in both brothers and sisters of women with PCOS, and for depressive, anxiety, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders in the sisters only. Notably, the crude ORs for attempted suicide were 40% higher in women with PCOS and 16% higher in their unaffected sisters. However, the AORs were greatly attenuated indicating that underlying psychiatric comorbidity is important for this association. Women with PCOS had higher risks for a range of psychiatric disorders not shown before. Elevated risk in their siblings suggests shared familial factors between PCOS and psychiatric disorders. This study is an important first step towards identifying the underlying mechanisms for risk of psychiatric disorders in women with PCOS. Health professionals treating women with PCOS should be aware that these patients - as well as their family members - are important targets for mental health care.
