  • Inclusive V-0 production cross sections from 920 GeV fixed target proton-nucleus collisions
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 29:2, s. 181-190
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Inclusive differential cross sections dsigma(pA)/dx(F) and dsigma(pA)/dp(t)(2) for the production of K-S(0), Lambda, and (&ULambda;) over bar particles are measured at HERA in proton-induced reactions on C, Al, Ti, and W targets. The incident beam energy is 920 GeV, corresponding to roots = 41.6 GeV in the proton-nucleon system. The ratios of differential cross sections dsigma(pA)(K-S(0))/dsigma(pA)(Lambda) and dsigma(pA)((&ULambda;) over bar)/dsigma(pA) (Lambda) are measured to be 6.2 +/- 0.5 and 0.66 +/- 0.07, respectively, for x(F) approximate to -0.06. No significant dependence upon the target material is observed. Within errors, the slopes of the transverse momentum distributions da,Ald t also show no significant dependence upon the target material. The dependence of the extrapolated total cross sections sigma(pA) on the atomic mass A of the target material is discussed, and the deduced cross sections per nucleon sigma(pN) are compared with results obtained at other energies.

  • Measurement of the b(b)over-bar production cross section in 920 GeV fixed-target proton-nucleus collisions
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 26:3, s. 345-355
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using the HERA-B detector, the b (b) over bar production cross section has been measured in 920 GeV proton collisions on carbon and titanium targets. The b (b) over bar production was tagged via inclusive bottom quark decays into J/psi by exploiting the longitudinal separation of J/psi --> l(+)l(-) decay vertices from the primary proton-nucleus interaction. Both e(+)e(-) and mu(+)mu(-) channels have been reconstructed and the combined analysis yields the cross section sigma(b (b) over bar) = 32(-12)(+14)(stat) (+6)(-7)(sys) nb/nucleon.

  • The dust halo of Saturn's largest icy moon, Rhea
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Science. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 0036-8075 .- 1095-9203. ; 319:5868, s. 1380-1384
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Saturn's moon Rhea had been considered massive enough to retain a thin, externally generated atmosphere capable of locally affecting Saturn's magnetosphere. The Cassini spacecraft's in situ observations reveal that energetic electrons are depleted in the moon's vicinity. The absence of a substantial exosphere implies that Rhea's magnetospheric interaction region, rather than being exclusively induced by sputtered gas and its products, likely contains solid material that can absorb magnetospheric particles. Combined observations from several instruments suggest that this material is in the form of grains and boulders up to several decimetres in size and orbits Rhea as an equatorial debris disk. Within this disk may reside denser, discrete rings or arcs of material.

  • A new system for naming ribosomal proteins.
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Current Opinion in Structural Biology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1879-033X .- 0959-440X. ; 24, s. 165-169
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A system for naming ribosomal proteins is described that the authors intend to use in the future. They urge others to adopt it. The objective is to eliminate the confusion caused by the assignment of identical names to ribosomal proteins from different species that are unrelated in structure and function. In the system proposed here, homologous ribosomal proteins are assigned the same name, regardless of species. It is designed so that new names are similar enough to old names to be easily recognized, but are written in a format that unambiguously identifies them as 'new system' names.

  • Association of patients' sex with treatment outcomes after intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin immunotherapy for T1G3/HG bladder cancer
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: World journal of urology. - : Springer Nature. - 0724-4983 .- 1433-8726. ; 39:9, s. 3337-3344
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: To investigate the association of patients' sex with recurrence and disease progression in patients treated with intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) for T1G3/HG urinary bladder cancer (UBC).Materials and methods: We analyzed the data of 2635 patients treated with adjuvant intravesical BCG for T1 UBC between 1984 and 2019. We accounted for missing data using multiple imputations and adjusted for covariate imbalance between males and females using inverse probability weighting (IPW). Crude and IPW-adjusted Cox regression analyses were used to estimate the hazard ratios (HR) with their 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the association of patients' sex with HG-recurrence and disease progression. Results: A total of 2170 (82%) males and 465 (18%) females were available for analysis. Overall, 1090 (50%) males and 244 (52%) females experienced recurrence, and 391 (18%) males and 104 (22%) females experienced disease progression. On IPW-adjusted Cox regression analyses, female sex was associated with disease progression (HR 1.25, 95%CI 1.01-1.56, p = 0.04) but not with recurrence (HR 1.06, 95%CI 0.92-1.22, p = 0.41). A total of 1056 patients were treated with adequate BCG. In these patients, on IPW-adjusted Cox regression analyses, patients' sex was not associated with recurrence (HR 0.99, 95%CI 0.80-1.24, p = 0.96), HG-recurrence (HR 1.00, 95%CI 0.78-1.29, p = 0.99) or disease progression (HR 1.12, 95%CI 0.78-1.60, p = 0.55).Conclusion: Our analysis generates the hypothesis of a differential response to BCG between males and females if not adequately treated. Further studies should focus on sex-based differences in innate and adaptive immune system and their association with BCG response.

  • Prognostic Factors and Risk Groups in T1G3 Non-Muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer Patients Initially Treated with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin : Results of a Retrospective Multicenter Study of 2451 Patients
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Urology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0302-2838 .- 1873-7560. ; 67:1, s. 74-82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The impact of prognostic factors in T1G3 non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (BCa) patients is critical for proper treatment decision making. Objective: To assess prognostic factors in patients who received bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) as initial intravesical treatment of T1G3 tumors and to identify a subgroup of high-risk patients who should be considered for more aggressive treatment. Design, setting, and participants: Individual patient data were collected for 2451 T1G3 patients from 23 centers who received BCG between 1990 and 2011. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Using Cox multivariable regression, the prognostic importance of several clinical variables was assessed for time to recurrence, progression, BCa-specific survival, and overall survival (OS). Results and limitations: With a median follow-up of 5.2 yr, 465 patients (19%) progressed, 509 (21%) underwent cystectomy, and 221 (9%) died because of BCa. In multivariable analyses, the most important prognostic factors for progression were age, tumor size, and concomitant carcinoma in situ (CIS); the most important prognostic factors for BCa-specific survival and OS were age and tumor size. Patients were divided into four risk groups for progression according to the number of adverse factors among age >= 70 yr, size >= 3 cm, and presence of CIS. Progression rates at 10 yr ranged from 17% to 52%. BCa-specific death rates at 10 yr were 32% in patients >= 70 yr with tumor size >= 3 cm and 13% otherwise. Conclusions: T1G3 patients >= 70 yr with tumors >= 3 cm and concomitant CIS should be treated more aggressively because of the high risk of progression. Patient summary: Although the majority of T1G3 patients can be safely treated with intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin, there is a subgroup of T1G3 patients with age >= 70 yr, tumor size >= 3 cm, and concomitant CIS who have a high risk of progression and thus require aggressive treatment.

  • Development of collector integrated sorption modules for solar heating and cooling : Performance simulation
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Energy Procedia. - : Elsevier BV. - 1876-6102. ; 48, s. 67-76
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Solar thermal cooling has difficulty to emerge as an economically competitive solution for small systems mainly due to high investment cost and system complexity [1]. Therefore developments of principally new system solutions are needed. This paper describes such a solution with sorption modules directly integrated into a solar thermal collector. The focus of the work has been to find key parameters influencing the module and the system efficiency. A validated model of a sorption collector has been implemented into a simplified system deck providing cooling, heating and domestic hot water to static loads in the system modelling environment TRNSYS [2]. Simulations have been conducted for different boundary conditions and at two locations with different climatic conditions. Thermal losses from the collector as well as internal thermal losses inside the collector were found to be the most important parameters influencing efficiency. The system simulations gave overall thermal cooling efficiencies in the range of 0.12-0.27 and electrical cooling efficiencies in the range of 15-45 depending on collector technology, climate and control strategy.
