  • Etnisk bakgrund, integration och sjuklighet : Slutenvård bland invandrare i Sverige 1990–2001
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Working Papers in Social Insurance. - Stockholm : Försäkringskassan. - 1653-1353. ; :1, s. 1-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze to what extent differences in health between groups of different origin remain after considering differences in education, income and labor market status, and whether there exists any patterns according to the socioeconomic character of the country of origin. Design: The study is based on two data sources; Longitudinal Database for Education, Income and Employment, (LOUISE) and the Hospital Discharge Register (HDR). The data set consists of all Swedish and foreign born individuals born in 1945, 1955 and 1965, who were Swedish residents in 1990. The risk of hospitalization is analyzed for the period 1990–2001 using binomial logit regression. Results: When only demographic characteristics are controlled for, most immigrant groups display higher rates of hospital discharge records than native Swedes, but when education, income and labor market status is introduced into the model, only Nordic immigrants display levels of severe morbidity that are significantly higher than the levels for Swedish born. Among welfare recipients, only immigrants from Finland display higher levels of severe morbidity than native Swedes; most immigrant groups display significantly lower levels of severe morbidity than native Swedes. The analysis shows no evidence of a systematic relationship between health status and the socioeconomic character of the country of origin. Conclusion: Higher levels of severe morbidity among immigrants compared to Swedes seem to be explained by the socioeconomic situation in Sweden, rather than health conditions and socioeconomic circumstances before immigration. There is a strong correlation between a weak labor market integration and high levels of severe morbidity in non-Nordic immigrant groups.

  • Ethnic background, labor market attachment and severe morbidity: Hospitalization among immigrants in Sweden 1990-2001
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of International Migration and Integration. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1874-6365 .- 1488-3473. ; 9:1, s. 45-61
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article examines differences in health among immigrants in Sweden from 1990 to 2001. Controlling for demographic characteristics, most immigrant groups display higher rates of hospitalisation than native Swedes, but when socio-economic factors are introduced, only Nordic immigrants display rates that are significantly higher than for Swedish-born individuals. High rates of hospitalisation among immigrants compared to Swedes seem to be explained by the socio-economic situation in Sweden rather than health conditions and socio-economic circumstances before immigration. There is a strong correlation between weak labour market integration and high levels of severe morbidity in non-Nordic immigrant groups.

  • Net charge fluctuations in Au+Au interactions root s(NN)=130 GeV
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 89
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data from Au+ Au interactions at s(NN)=130 GeV, obtained with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, are used to investigate local net charge fluctuations among particles produced near midrapidity. According to recent suggestions, such fluctuations may carry information from the quark-gluon plasma. This analysis shows that the fluctuations are dominated by a stochastic distribution of particles, but are also sensitive to other effects, like global charge conservation and resonance decays.

  • Wind Turbine Blades Using Recycled Carbon Fibers : An Environmental Assessment
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Environmental Science and Technology. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0013-936X .- 1520-5851. ; 56:2, s. 1267-1277
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Polymers reinforced with virgin carbon fibers (VCF) are being used to make spar caps of wind turbine (WT) blades and polymers with glass fibers (GF) to make skins of the blade components. Here, we assess the life cycle environmental performance of the hybrid blades with spar caps based on VCF and the shells and shear webs based on RCF (recycled CF) composites (RCF-hybrid). The production of the WT blades and associated reinforced polymers is assumed to occur in Sweden, with their uses and end-of-life management in the European region. The functional unit is equivalent to three blades in an offshore WT with the market incumbent blades solely based on the GF composite or the hybrid option. The RCF-hybrid blades offer 12-89% better environmental performance in nine out of 10 impact categories and 6-26% better in six out of 10 impact categories. The RCF-hybrid blades exhibit optimum environmental performance when the VCF manufacturing facilities are equipped with pollution abatement systems including regenerative thermal oxidizers to reduce ammonia and hydrogen cyanide emissions; spar caps are made using VCF epoxy composites through pultrusion and resin infusion molding, and the blade scrap is mechanically recycled at the end of life. The energy and carbon payback times for the RCF-hybrid blades were found to be 5-13% lower than those of the market incumbents.

  • Botanical Nomenclature in Pharmacovigilance and a Recommendation for Standardisation
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Drug Safety. - 0114-5916. ; 29, s. 1023-1029
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nomenclature of plants in pharmacology can be presented by pharmaceutical names or scientific names in the form of Linnaean binomials. In this paper, positive and negative aspects of both systems are discussed in the context of the scientific nomenclatural framework and the systems’ practical applicability. The Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) runs the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring and is responsible for the WHO Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) database that currently contains 3.6 million records WHO Adverse Drug Reaction database. In order for the UMC to monitor pharmacovigilance through ADRs to herbal medicine products the following species nomenclatural criteria are important: (i) the name should indicate only one species of plant; (ii) the source for this name must be authoritative; (iii) the name should indicate which part of the plant is used. Based on these criteria, the UMC investigated four options: (i) adopt main names used in recognised (inter-) national pharmacopoeias or authoritative publications; (ii) adopt option 1, but cite the publication for all names in abbreviated form; (iii) three-part pharmaceutical names consisting of Latinised part name plus Latinised genus name, plus Latinised specific epithet; (iv) scientific binomial names, optionally with author and plant part used. The UMC has selectedchosen for the latter option and willas its adoption utilizes the scientific botanical nomenclature as defined by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.

  • Reconstructing Palaeozoic and Mesozoic tectonic evolution of Novaya Zemlya : combing geochronology and thermochronology
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Geological Society Special Publication. - 0305-8719 .- 2041-4927. ; 460, s. 335-353
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To better understand the sediment provenance and exhumation history of Novaya Zemlya's Mesozoic fold–thrust belt, we apply detrital zircon U–Pb geochronology combined with zircon and apatite fission track analyses to samples from the Precambrian to late Permian siliciclastic successions of the southern and northern islands. The Silurian to early Devonian samples are dominated by zircons (1.14–0.9 Ga) characteristic of the Sveconorwegian Orogen. Zircon fission track ages for individual units are older than their stratigraphic ages and consistent with single-age population distributions. The zircon fission track results document no annealing after deposition and therefore preserve provenance information, which indicates that the source rock(s) of each sample most likely experienced the same thermal event. The results support the erosion and recycling of Sveconorwegian-aged zircon from the Fennoscandian shield during Caledonian orogenesis to the Barents Sea Shelf and Novaya Zemlya. Apatite fission track ages and thermal modelling identify a rapid cooling event at 220–210 Ma, consistent with late Triassic deformation on Novaya Zemlya.

  • Direct Acquisition of the Gap Height of Biological Tissue-Electronic Chemical Sensor Interfaces
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Angewandte Chemie-International Edition. - : Wiley. - 1433-7851 .- 1521-3773. ; 61:43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Interfacing biological tissues with electronic sensors offers the exciting opportunity to accurately investigate multiple biological processes. Accurate signal collection and application are the foundation of these measurements, but a long-term issue is the signal distortion resulting from the interface gap. The height of the gap is the key characteristic needed to evaluate or model the distortion, but it is difficult to measure. By integrating a pair of nanopores at the electronic sensor plane and measuring the ion conductance between them, we developed a versatile and straightforward strategy to realize the direct cooperative evaluation of the gap height during exocytotic release from adrenal gland tissues. The signaling distortion of this gap has been theoretically evaluated and shows almost no influence on the amperometric recording of exocytosis in a classic "semi-artificial synapse" configuration. This strategy should benefit research concerning various bio/chemical/machine interfaces.
