  • SHREC 2011: Robust Feature Detection and Description Benchmark
  • 2011
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Feature-based approaches have recently become very popular in computer vision and image analysis applications, and are becoming a promising direction in shape retrieval. SHREC’11 robust feature detection and description benchmark simulates the feature detection and description stages of feature-based shape retrieval algorithms. The benchmark tests the performance of shape feature detectors and descriptors under a wide variety of transformations. The benchmark allows evaluating how algorithms cope with certain classes of transformations and strength of the transformations that can be dealt with. The present paper is a report of the SHREC’11 robust feature detection and description benchmark results.

  • Pituitary Neoplasm Nomenclature Workshop: Does Adenoma Stand the Test of Time?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Endocrine Society. - : The Endocrine Society. - 2472-1972. ; 5:3
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The WHO Classification of Endocrine Tumours designates pituitary neoplasms as adenomas. A proposed nomenclature change to pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETs) has been met with concern by some stakeholder groups. The Pituitary Society coordinated the Pituitary Neoplasm Nomenclature (PANOMEN) workshop to address the topic. Experts in pituitary developmental biology, pathology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, and oncology, including representatives nominated by the Endocrine Society, European Society of Endocrinology, European Neuroendocrine Association, Growth Hormone Research Society, and International Society of Pituitary Surgeons. Clinical epidemiology, disease phenotype, management, and prognosis of pituitary adenomas differ from that of most NETs. The vast majority of pituitary adenomas are benign and do not adversely impact life expectancy. A nomenclature change to PitNET does not address the main challenge of prognostic prediction, assigns an uncertain malignancy designation to benign pituitary adenomas, and may adversely affect patients. Due to pandemic restrictions, the workshop was conducted virtually, with audiovisual lectures and written précis on each topic provided to all participants. Feedback was collated and summarized by Content Chairs and discussed during a virtual writing meeting moderated by Session Chairs, which yielded an evidence-based draft document sent to all participants for review and approval. There is not yet a case for adopting the PitNET nomenclature. The PANOMEN Workshop recommends that the term adenoma be retained and that the topic be revisited as new evidence on pituitary neoplasm biology emerges.

  • Lack of Association between GBA Mutations and Motor Complications in European and American Parkinson's Disease Cohorts
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Parkinson's Disease. - : IOS Press. - 1877-7171 .- 1877-718X. ; 11:4, s. 1569-1578
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Motor complications are a consequence of the chronic dopaminergic treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD) and include levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LIDs) and motor fluctuations (MF). Currently, evidence is on lacking whether patients with GBA-associated PD differ in their risk of developing motor complications compared to the general PD population. Objective: To evaluate the association of GBA carrier status with the development of LIDS and MFs from early PD.Methods: Motor complications were recorded prospectively in 884 patients with PD from four longitudinal cohorts using part IV of the UPDRS or MDS-UPDRS. Subjects were followed for up to 11 years and the associations of GBA mutations with the development of motor complications were assessed using parametric accelerated failure time models. Results: In 439 patients from Europe, GBA mutations were detected in 53 (12.1%) patients and a total of 168 cases of LIDs and 258 cases of MF were observed. GBA carrier status was not associated with the time to develop LIDs (HR 0.78, 95%CI 0.47 to 1.26, p = 0.30) or MF (HR 1.19, 95%CI 0.84 to 1.70, p = 0.33). In the American cohorts, GBA mutations were detected in 36 (8.1%) patients and GBA carrier status was also not associated with the progression to LIDs (HR 1.08, 95%CI 0.55 to 2.14, p = 0.82) or MF (HR 1.22, 95%CI 0.74 to 2.04, p = 0.43).Conclusion: This study does not provide evidence that GBA-carrier status is associated with a higher risk of developing motor complications. Publication of studies with null results is vital to develop an accurate summary of the clinical features that impact patients with GBA-associated PD.

  • Lanreotide Autogel 120 mg at extended dosing intervals in patients with acromegaly biochemically controlled with octreotide LAR : the LEAD study
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Endocrinology. - 0804-4643 .- 1479-683X. ; 173:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To evaluate extended dosing intervals (EDIs) with lanreotide Autogel 120 mg in patients with acromegaly previously biochemically controlled with octreotide LAR 10 or 20 mg.DESIGN AND METHODS: Patients with acromegaly had received octreotide LAR 10 or 20 mg/4 weeks for ≥ 6 months and had normal IGF1 levels. Lanreotide Autogel 120 mg was administered every 6 weeks for 24 weeks (phase 1); depending on week-24 IGF1 levels, treatment was then administered every 4, 6 or 8 weeks for a further 24 weeks (phase 2). Hormone levels, patient-reported outcomes and adverse events were assessed.PRIMARY ENDPOINT: proportion of patients on 6- or 8-week EDIs with normal IGF1 levels at week 48 (study end).RESULTS: 107/124 patients completed the study (15 withdrew from phase 1 and two from phase 2). Of 124 patients enrolled, 77.4% were allocated to 6- or 8-week EDIs in phase 2 and 75.8% (95% CI: 68.3-83.3) had normal IGF1 levels at week 48 with the EDI (primary analysis). A total of 88.7% (83.1-94.3) had normal IGF1 levels after 24 weeks with 6-weekly dosing. GH levels were ≤ 2.5 μg/l in > 90% of patients after 24 and 48 weeks. Patient preferences for lanreotide Autogel 120 mg every 4, 6 or 8 weeks over octreotide LAR every 4 weeks were high.CONCLUSIONS: Patients with acromegaly achieving biochemical control with octreotide LAR 10 or 20 mg/4 weeks are possible candidates for lanreotide Autogel 120 mg EDIs. EDIs are effective and well received among such patients.

  • RecSys 2021 challenge workshop : Fairness-aware engagement prediction at scale on Twiter's Home Timeline
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: RecSys 2021 - 15th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems. - New York, NY, USA : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450384582 ; , s. 819-824
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The workshop features presentations of accepted contributions to the RecSys Challenge 2021, organized by Politecnico di Bari, ETH Zürich, Jönköping University, and the data set is provided by Twitter. The challenge focuses on a real-world task of tweet engagement prediction in a dynamic environment. For 2021, the challenge considers four different engagement types: Likes, Retweet, Quote, and replies. This year's challenge brings the problem even closer to Twitter's real recommender systems by introducing latency constraints. We also increases the data size to encourage novel methods. Also, the data density is increased in terms of the graph where users are considered to be nodes and interactions as edges. The goal is twofold: to predict the probability of different engagement types of a target user for a set of Tweets based on heterogeneous input data while providing fair recommendations. In fact, multi-goal optimization considering accuracy and fairness is particularly challenging. However, we believed that the recommendation community was nowadays mature enough to face the challenge of providing accurate and, at the same time, fair recommendations. To this end, Twitter has released a public dataset of close to 1 billion data points, > 40 million each day over 28 days. Week 1-3 will be used for training and week 4 for evaluation and testing. Each datapoint contains the tweet along with engagement features, user features, and tweet features. A peculiarity of this challenge is related to keeping the dataset updated with the platform: if a user deletes a Tweet, or their data from Twitter, the dataset is promptly updated. Moreover, each change in the dataset implied new evaluations of all submissions and the update of the leaderboard metrics. The challenge was well received with 578 registered users, and 386 submissions.

  • Criteria for the definition of Pituitary Tumor Centers of Excellence (PTCOE): A Pituitary Society Statement
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Pituitary. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1386-341X .- 1573-7403. ; 20, s. 489-498
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2017, The Author(s). Introduction: With the goal of generate uniform criteria among centers dealing with pituitary tumors and to enhance patient care, the Pituitary Society decided to generate criteria for developing Pituitary Tumors Centers of Excellence (PTCOE). Methods: To develop that task, a group of ten experts served as a Task Force and through two years of iterative work an initial draft was elaborated. This draft was discussed, modified and finally approved by the Board of Directors of the Pituitary Society. Such document was presented and debated at a specific session of the Congress of the Pituitary Society, Orlando 2017, and suggestions were incorporated. Finally the document was distributed to a large group of global experts that introduced further modifications with final endorsement. Results: After five years of iterative work a document with the ideal criteria for a PTCOE is presented. Conclusions: Acknowledging that very few centers in the world, if any, likely fulfill the requirements here presented, the document may be a tool to guide improvements of care delivery to patients with pituitary disorders. All these criteria must be accommodated to the regulations and organization of Health of a given country.

  • Ligand-Directed Self-Assembly of Organic-Semiconductor/Quantum-Dot Blend Films Enables Efficient Triplet Exciton-Photon Conversion
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Chemical Society. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0002-7863 .- 1520-5126. ; 146:11, s. 7763-7770
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Blends comprising organic semiconductors and inorganic quantum dots (QDs) are relevant for many optoelectronic applications and devices. However, the individual components in organic-QD blends have a strong tendency to aggregate and phase-separate during film processing, compromising both their structural and electronic properties. Here, we demonstrate a QD surface engineering approach using electronically active, highly soluble semiconductor ligands that are matched to the organic semiconductor host material to achieve well-dispersed inorganic-organic blend films, as characterized by X-ray and neutron scattering, and electron microscopies. This approach preserves the electronic properties of the organic and QD phases and also creates an optimized interface between them. We exemplify this in two emerging applications, singlet-fission-based photon multiplication (SF-PM) and triplet-triplet annihilation-based photon upconversion (TTA-UC). Steady-state and time-resolved optical spectroscopy shows that triplet excitons can be transferred with near unity efficiently across the organic-inorganic interface, while the organic films maintain efficient SF (190% yield) in the organic phase. By changing the relative energy between organic and inorganic components, yellow upconverted emission is observed upon 790 nm NIR excitation. Overall, we provide a highly versatile approach to overcome longstanding challenges in the blending of organic semiconductors with QDs that have relevance for many optical and optoelectronic applications.

  • Charge Recombination and Exciton Annihilation Reactions in Conjugated Polymer Blends
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Chemical Society. - 0002-7863. ; 132:1, s. 328-335
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bimolecular interactions between excitations in conjugated polymer thin films are important because they influence the efficiency of many optoelectronic devices that require high excitation densities. Using time-resolved optical spectroscopy, we measure the bimolecular interactions of charges, singlet excitons, and triplet excitons in intimately mixed polyfluorene blends with band-edge offsets optimized for photoinduced electron transfer. Bimolecular charge recombination and triplet−triplet annihilation are negligible, but exciton−charge interactions are efficient. The annihilation of singlet excitons by charges occurs on picosecond time-scales and reaches a rate equivalent to that of charge transfer. Triplet exciton annihilation by charges occurs on nanosecond time-scales. The surprising absence of nongeminate charge recombination is shown to be due to the limited mobility of charge carriers at the heterojunction. Therefore, extremely high densities of charge pairs can be maintained in the blend. The absence of triplet−triplet annihilation is a consequence of restricted triplet diffusion in the blend morphology. We suggest that the rate and nature of bimolecular interactions are determined by the stochastic excitation distribution in the polymer blend and the limited connectivity between the polymer domains. A model based on these assumptions quantitatively explains the effects. Our findings provide a comprehensive framework for understanding bimolecular recombination and annihilation processes in nanostructured materials.

  • The Bárány Society position on 'Cervical Dizziness'
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of vestibular research : equilibrium & orientation. - 1878-6464. ; 32:6, s. 487-499
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes the Bárány Society Classification OverSight Committee (COSC) position on Cervical Dizziness, sometimes referred to as Cervical Vertigo. This involved an initial review by a group of experts across a broad range of fields, and then subsequent review by the Bárány Society COSC. Based upon the so far published literature, the Bárány Society COSC takes the view that the evidence supporting a mechanistic link between an illusory sensation of self-motion (i.e. vertigo - spinning or otherwise) and neck pathology and/or symptoms of neck pain - either by affecting the cervical vertebrae, soft tissue structures or cervical nerve roots - is lacking. When a combined head and neck movement triggers an illusory sensation of spinning, there is either an underlying common vestibular condition such as migraine or BPPV or less commonly a central vestibular condition including, when acute in onset, dangerous conditions (e.g. a dissection of the vertebral artery with posterior circulation stroke and, exceedingly rarely, a vertebral artery compression syndrome). The Committee notes, that migraine, including vestibular migraine, is by far, the commonest cause for the combination of neck pain and vestibular symptoms. The committee also notes that since head movement aggravates symptoms in almost any vestibular condition, the common finding of increased neck muscle tension in vestibular patients, may be linked as both cause and effect, to reduced head movements. Additionally, there are theoretical mechanisms, which have not been explored, whereby cervical pain may promote vaso-vagal, cardio-inhibitory reflexes and hence by presyncopal mechanisms, elicit transient disorientation and/or imbalance. The committee accepts that further research is required to answer the question as to whether those rare cases in which neck muscle spasm is associated with a vague sense of spatial disorientation and/or imbalance, is indeed linked to impaired neck proprioception. Future studies should ideally be placebo controlled and double-blinded where possible, with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria that aim for high specificity at the cost of sensitivity. To facilitate further studies in "cervical dizziness/vertigo", we provide a narrative view of the important confounds investigators should consider when designing controlled mechanistic and therapeutic studies. Hence, currently, the Bárány COSC refrains from proposing any preliminary diagnostic criteria for clinical use outside a research study. This position may change as new research evidence is provided.
