    • Monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) is the principle enzyme for metabolizing endogenous cannabinoid ligand 2-arachidonoyglycerol (2-AG). Blockade of MAGL increases 2-AG levels, resulting in subsequent activation of the endocannabinoid system, and has emerged as a novel therapeutic strategy to treat drug addiction, inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases. Herein we report a new series of MAGL inhibitors, which were radiolabeled by site-specific labeling technologies, including C-11-carbonylation and spirocyclic iodonium ylide (SCIDY) radio fluorination. The lead compound [C-11]10 (MAGL-0519) demonstrated high specific binding and selectivity in vitro and in vivo. We also observed unexpected washout kinetics with these irreversible radiotracers, in which in vivo evidence for turnover of the covalent residue was unveiled between MAGL and azetidine carboxylates. This work may lead to new directions for drug discovery and PET tracer development based on azetidine carboxylate inhibitor scaffold.

  • Constant Current Charging and Maximum System Efficiency Tracking for Wireless Charging Systems Employing Dual-Side Control

    • Wireless power transfer (WPT) systems have attracted much attention because of their safety, convenience, and environmental friendliness. For wireless supercapacitor charging, the system efficiency and charging current are highly dependent on the load that varies over a wide range. In this article, a simultaneous maximum system efficiency (MSE) tracking and constant current (CC) charging control scheme for a supercapacitor is proposed. For CC charging, a double-sided LCC topology is chosen due to its characteristic of providing a load-independent output current. Furthermore, the impact of the coil internal resistance on the system characteristics (especially the charging current) is investigated, so a semiactive rectifier is introduced on the secondary side to achieve accurate CC charging and improve the system robustness. Based on the variable-step perturbation and observation algorithm, the MSE is tracked by searching for the minimum system input dc current using a primary-side buck converter on the premise that the charging current reaches its target value. The abovementioned two control loops are independent, and mutual communication is unnecessary when they cooperate; thus, the system is simplified. The simulation and experimental results show great consistency with the theoretical analysis. The experimental system maintains the MSE of 86% during charging the supercapacitor from 20 to 50 V with 2 A.

  • Characterization and sources of childhood PAEs exposure from residential airborne dust in China cities

    • To explore the multicenter characteristics of endocrine-like phthalate esters (PAEs) in household dust and propose effective control strategies for global indoor public health. An on-site observational investigation was conducted in nine Chinese cities from 2018 to 2019. A total of 246 household dust samples were collected and analyzed for ten PAE congeners using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Questionnaires were used to gather information on building conditions, indoor behaviors, and ventilation habits. In residential dust from the nine cities, the total concentrations of the ten PAE congeners (∑PAEs) ranged from 0.921 to 29097.297 µg/g. Dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP) and di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) were the dominant congeners in ∑PAEs. Childhood exposure to PAEs through dust ingestion was four orders of magnitude higher than through inhalation, with a carcinogenic risk of 5.47 × 10−6 for DEHP exposure in household dust. Higher ∑PAEs concentrations were associated with higher temperature, double glazing, wall paint usage, television and computer use, and indoor plant growth. This multicenter on-site investigation confirmed PAE pollution characteristics and uncovered the inacceptable risk of daily DEHP exposure in household dust under real living conditions. Effective mitigation measures based on household-related information, residential characteristics, decoration materials, and lifestyle should be taken to build a healthy household environment.

  • Hybrid photonic-plasmonic molecule based on metal/Si disks

    • Optical properties of two identical coupled disks forming a "hybrid photonic-plasmonic molecule" are investigated. Each disk is a metal-dielectric structure supporting hybrid plasmonic-photonic whispering-gallery (WG) modes. The WG modes of a molecule split into two groups of nearly-degenerate modes, i.e., bonding and anti-bonding modes. The oscillation of quality factor (Q) with the inter-disk gap d and significant enhancement at certain inter-disk gaps can be observed. An enhanced Q factor of 1821 for a hybrid photonic-plasmonic molecule composed of two 1.2 mu m-diameter disks, compared with that for a single disk, is achieved. The corresponding Purcell factor is 191, making the hybrid photonic-plasmonic molecule an optimal choice for subwavelength-scale device miniaturization and light-matter interactions. Moreover, the far-field emission pattern of the hybrid photonic-plasmonic molecule exhibits an enhanced directional light output by tuning the azimuthal mode number for both bonding and anti-bonding modes.

  • A new method to assess vehicle airborne non-exhaust particles : Principle, application and emission evaluation

    • A method that could assess the whole vehicle non-exhaust particle (NEP) emission from the whole vehicle level was proposed by combining sealed housing with the chassis dynamometer. The intake and exhaust systems were connected to the out of the chamber to avoid possible effects on NEP emissions. The most distinguishing feature of the proposed method is the whole vehicle assessment of the NEP. Based on the proposed method, three vehicles were tested under various conditions. The results proved that the total NEP from the US06 cycle could be four orders of magnitude higher than that of the WLTC cycle due to the higher thermal load. The transient NEP concentration is highly associated with the friction pairs' temperature, and there are two critical temperatures respectively for volatile particles and solid particles. Mechanical friction-dominated test (WLTC) tends to produce larger particles, while thermal process-dominated tests (US06) tend to emit smaller particles. Solid particles occupy <10% of the total particles, and solid particle is dominated with the size at 10– 23 nm. The higher the brake temperature, the higher the solid particle emissions (both concentration and portion). NEP emission decreases when vehicle miles travelled increase. Total NEP number emission factors could be two orders of magnitude higher than the current PN limit for exhaust particles (6*1011#/km). The solid particle emission factor could also be ten times higher than the current PN limit. O and Fe element distribution matches well with the SEM image, which means the proposed method could successfully sample the brake particles. The carbon element weight is dominated by the organic carbon, which might mean that it's the mechanical abrasion dominate the carbon mass. The top 5 dominant element during ICP/MS analysis is Si, Na, Mg, Zn, and Al.
